Hot on the heels of the epic first season of Big Brother Canada, the country’s biggest specialty reality series of the year, Shaw Media and Insight Productions announced today that the national casting call for season two is now open. According to recent research, around 16 per cent of Canadian adults have ditched conventional TV in favour of online streaming.

The research from Google found that 16 per cent have completely “cut the cord” while 45 per cent say they watch a combination of both TV and online content.

Younger viewers were more likely to have moved on to watching online video content, with about one in four Canadians aged 18 to 24 saying they relied on online video only.

The rise in “cord-cutters” has grown in the past few years, with a 60 per cent rise among 18- to 24-year olds since 2010.

KristenBellKristen Bell has been added to the cast of Parks and Recreation.

Bell and Ben Schwartz will make guest appearances on the comedy series when it returns this fall.

Bell will join up with the series following production on the Veronica Mars movie, playing a “snooty city councilwoman from Pawnee rival Eagleton”.

Schwartz will reprise his role as Jean-Ralphio, a friend of Tom (Aziz Ansari).

 

ArrestedDevelopmentNetflix has officially entered negotiations regarding a fifth season of Arrested Development.

Following this year’s successful return of the comedy series, Netflix is looking at the possibility of producing more online-only episodes.

Arrested Development was the first semi-original series to feature on Netflix, with the company going on to release Orange is the New Black this week.

cote-de-pabloNCIS veteran Cote de Pablo has announced her departure from the series.

The actress will not be back to reprise her role as Ziva David in the upcoming 11th season.

“I’ve had eight great years with NCIS and Ziva David,” de Pablo said in a statement. “I have huge respect and affection for Mark [Harmon], Gary [Glasberg], Michael [Weatherly], David [McCallum], Rocky [Carroll], Pauley [Perrette], Brian [Dietzen], Sean [Murray], all of the team and CBS. I look forward to finishing Ziva’s story.”

CBS said in a statement: “We respect Cote’s decision, thank her for being an important part of the NCIS team, and for eight terrific years playing Ziva David. Cote and CBS share a great respect for the NCIS audience, and we look forward to working with her and the producers on appropriate closure in this chapter of Ziva’s story.” Continue reading »

A Belgian artist has created a mash-up of two pop culture heavyweights, turning the characters of Game of Thrones into Simpsons characters.

Roman HolidayHomeland has added a Gossip Girl actor to its third season.

William Abadie will join the drama series for its new season, playing the role of a journalist named Alan Bernard.

Abadie is best known for his recent role on Gossip Girl and has had parts in 90210 and Chuck in the past.

Other new additions to the season three cast include Amy Morton (Up in the Air), David Aaron Baker (Boardwalk Empire), Joanna Merlin (Law and Order: SVU) and Tracy Letts (Prison Break).
