Finale Synopsis:

A hotel security guard dies under mysterious circumstances. Was it an accident or was it murder? When Balagan (Shawn Doyle) tries to figure out who would want to kill the guard, he discovers there is much more to the seemingly simple hotel employee than anyone could have imagined.

Meanwhile, Pippa (Melanie Papalia) is convinced she knows who killed her sister, Rosemary – it was a powerful lawyer named Sebastian Wilks (Paul McGillion). Wilks decides to put an end to her investigations – by introducing Balagan to his worst nightmare.

Showcase launched the latest Canadian drama last night in the form of Endgame, a new crime fighting show where the star doesn't leave his home.  

Ok, so I should clarify that the star, Arkady Balagan (Shawn Doyle - Big Love), isn't actually at home, per se, but is rather holed up in a ritzy hotel - the Huxley.  Why? Well the brilliant chess master has been somewhat traumatised by his fiance's murder and now he seems afraid to go outside.

Now, he's running out of money and facing eviction from the hotel staff.  Thankfully for him, someone believes his mastery of chess would be of enormous use in helping find a kidnapped child.  Using his fierce analytical skills along with a band of friends and hotel employees who can do his bidding beyond the hotel lobby, the wonderfully charismatic Russian pieces together the mystery to solve the crime.

A chess grandmaster becomes a master detective in Showcase’s new original drama Endgame. Premiering Monday, March 14th at 10pm ET/PT, Endgame stars Shawn Doyle (Big Love, Lost), as the former World Chess Champion Arkady Balagan.

After witnessing the murder of his fiancée, Balagan develops a debilitating case of agoraphobia. Unable to leave his hotel and running out of money, the arrogant and charismatic Russian inadvertently becomes a detective - using his fierce analytical skills to solve the crimes that baffle others.

Balagan relies on friends and hotel employees to do his legwork; from conducting interviews and trailing suspects to bringing back clues.  Balagan then uses his strategic thinking to stage imaginative, and often amusing, reenactments in his own mind-until he finds the solution. 

Thunderbird Films today announced start of production for Endgame, an original drama series centring on a brilliant chess master. Endgame is slated to premiere in Canada on Canwest Broadcasting’s specialty channel, Showcase in spring 2011, and will be distributed globally outside of North America by Endemol Group.

Starring Shawn Doyle (Big Love, Medium) and Torrance Coombs (The Tudors, JPod), Endgame revolves around Russian World Champion chess master Arkady Balagan (Doyle), who uses his extraordinary skills of perception and strategic thinking to solve crimes that have stumped others.

Endgame series regulars include Patrick Gallagher (Glee, True Blood), Kate Isabelle (The Good Wife, Sanctuary), Carmen Aguerre (Tin Man, Da Vinci’s Inquest) and Melanie Papilia (The Assistants, Intelligence).

Canwest Broadcasting proudly announces the pick-up of Endgame, Thunderbird Film’s much-anticipated drama series in association with Front Street Pictures. The one hour, 13-episode series is set to premiere Spring 2011 on Showcase.
