Thriller in Manila, airing Sunday, March 14 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on THE PASSIONATE EYE on CBC News Network, is the story behind the legendary battle between boxing legends Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali.

“The Thriller in Manila” was the greatest fight of all time. It was the third and final confrontation between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali, two men who, by this time, hated each other. It was a personal hatred born out of the explosive racial politics of 1970’s America. Only eight years earlier, these two men had been friends.

The documentary begins in 1967 when Ali refused to fight in the Vietnam War and was subsequently stripped of his heavyweight title and license to box. While the boxing world and mainstream America were against him for his views, Frazier stood by him, respecting his religious beliefs.
