Brave New Girl (w/t) is a new 30-minute unscripted series that follows the life of former Miss Universe Canada contestant Jenna Talackova as she moves from Vancouver to Toronto.

JillianMcThe winner of Big Brother Canada has been revealed in controversial circumstances.

Jillian MacLaughlin from New Glasgow, N.S., has taken out the $100,000 grand prize, beating fellow housemate Gary Levy following a voting mishap from jury member Topaz.

Believing she was voting for Gary to win, Topaz accidentally cast her vote for Jillian.

When host Arisa Cox announced her vote for Jillian, Topaz got up on stage to protest, claiming someone had switched her vote. Continue reading »

Production has commenced on the 13-part scripted series from Muse Entertainment and Back Alley Film Productions Ltd., which is shooting in Toronto through September 2013.

OrphanBlack3Space has given a second season order to new Canadian drama Orphan Black.

The Toronto-based series, which is currently half-way through its first season, will return in the spring of 2014 with 10 new episodes.

A record-breaker from the beginning, Orphan Black had the highest Original Series premiere ever for Space with an average of 513,000 viewers for its March 30 launch.

After five episodes Orphan Black has been watched in part by 2.8 million Canadians. With a weekly average of 364,000 viewers, Orphan Black is the #2 series for Space this broadcast year behind only Doctor Who. Continue reading »

RookieBlue44Rookie Blue creator Tassie Cameron has credited Flashpoint as being a “game-changer” for TV in Canada.

Cameron, who served as a co-executive producer and writer on Flashpoint, says that without it Rookie Blue may not have even existed.

“I have such a soft spot for that show,” Cameron says of Flashpoint. “Having been involved in the first year and having worked with Mark (Ellis) and Stephanie (Morgenstern, its creator-producers) closely. It really was a game-changer for Canadian television.

“Certainly, I don’t know that there would have been a ‘Rookie Blue’ without a ‘Flashpoint,'” adds Cameron. “I feel grateful, and I feel that I learned a lot. They made a very gracious exit, and did it on their own terms and did it beautifully. I really respect that.” Continue reading »

RectifyNetflix will air the new drama series Recify in Canada at the same time as it airs on the Sundance Channel in the US.

The deal between Netflix and ITV Studios Global Entertainment means the series from Oscar winner Ray McKinnon will air weekly alongside the US broadcast.
