CTV announced today that Canada’s favourite summertime obsession and #1 summer series will return for a sixth season in 2008. Canadian Idol is getting ready to hit the road beginning Saturday, January 26, 2008 on the first stop of the series’ sixth cross-country audition tour. The 2008 Canadian Idol Audition Tour will visit 10 cities in seven provinces from coast to coast, including a brand-new city never visited before.
The Season Five audition tour earlier this year saw 10,000 Canadian singers audition in a competition that ultimately saw SONY BMG MUSIC (CANADA) Inc. recording artist Brian Melo named the 2007 Champion.
Read moreWhen Hamilton's Brian Melo's name was revealed as the 2007 Canadian Idol champion in the final minutes of last night's star-studded season finale, a remarkable 2.75 million Canadians were watching, CTV confirmed today. In all, the unforgettable, two-hour Canadian Idol finale ended with an average audience of 2.25 million viewers, the single biggest audience of the season and once again the No. 1 program of the night in Canada.
In addition, Canadian Idol:
- Saw nearly 5 million Canadians tune in to some or all of the broadcast.
- More than doubled the audience of Big Brother (CBS/Global; 983,000) nationally, during the 9-10 p.m. hour.
- Was the most-watched show in Toronto by 25 per cent compared to the second-ranked show (CTV National News). With 428,000 viewers, Canadian Idol saw its Toronto audience jump 21 per cent compared to last year's finale.
With the latest season now concluded, Canadian Idol finishes for the
fifth season in a row as the most-watched program of the summer on Canadian television. The non-simulcast Idol drew 23 per cent more viewers than the second most-ranked series on Canadian TV this summer, America's Got Talent (CTV/NBC).
Brian Melo has been crowned the 5th Canadian Idol edging out Jaydee Bixby in this year's season finale of the hit TV show.
Brian's debut single,
All I Ever Wanted, will no doubt top the charts in the coming weeks as the debut singles of previous Canadian Idols Ryan Malcolm, Kalan Porter, Melissa O'Neil and Eva Avila did.
It's the final performance show of Canadian Idol 2007. It's the battle between Brian Melo and Jaydee Bixby. Who will be the next Canadian Idol?
Both Brian and Jaydee spent the week in New York with
Bon Jovi who have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide and are topping the charts with their new album
Lost Highway. Tonight they will each sing three songs.
Here are the lyrics to Brian Melo's winner's single from Canadian Idol 2007
Slow Down
Make it last
I'm having the time of my life
And take a photograph
I don't want to leave this behind
what seems so out of reach
we're holding it right in our hands
Let's give up everything
Let's jump in and never look back
Let's jump in and never look back
This is all I ever wanted
but life got in my way
You're all I ever wanted
I didn't see how it could change
