CTV News Vancouver 2010 Coverage

While the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games dominates CTV’s broadcast schedule from Feb. 12 – 28, Canada’s most-watched news team, CTV News, will continue to deliver Canadian and international news stories to viewers with both local and national newscasts in the morning, supper hour, and evening. In addition, CTV News Chief Anchor and Senior Editor Lloyd Robertson will provide regular news bulletins during prime time. CTV News coverage begins at the crack of dawn with OLYMPIC MORNING. Airing from 6 a.m. – 12 noon ET every day, OLYMPIC MORNING is the Olympic Games morning show, bringing viewers exclusive Vancouver 2010 news as well stories from across Canada and international stories from around the world. Final Two Stops for So You Think You Can Dance Canada Season 3 Audition Tour

With three stops already complete on the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Season 3 audition tour, CTV today announced the two remaining locations on the cross-country tour. The audition tour will spin into Halifax on Saturday, March 6 at the Bella Rose Arts Centre before it wraps up at the final stop in Calgary on Saturday, March 13 at the MacEwan Conference and Event Centre (University of Calgary), giving dancers two more opportunities to perform in front of the judges and prove that they have what it takes to become Canada’s next Favourite Dancer.

Canadian broadcasters collaborate to produce CANADA FOR HAITI special, followed by MTV’s HOPE FOR HAITI NOW, Friday, Jan. 22

Canada’s television networks have united in their support for Haiti as it struggles under the crippling devastation of last week’s earthquake. CBC Television, CTV and Global Television will be collaborating to produce CANADA FOR HAITI, a one-hour, commercial-free special leading up to HOPE FOR HAITI NOW, broadcasting live on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. ET/PT (8 p.m. AT).

Hosted by Cheryl Hickey, Ben Mulroney and George Stroumboulopoulos, CANADA FOR HAITI will feature exclusive Canadian content, exploring our country’s close relationship with Haiti in this time of need, and performances from top Canadian musicians. Full details will be announced in the coming days.

American Idol Biggest Premiere Viewer Ratings Ever

Nine seasons in, AMERICAN IDOL returned to CTV last night with its biggest premiere audience ever. A record-high 3.2 million viewers tuned in for opening night, an increase of 25% compared to the Season 8 premiere last January. It was the #1 program of the day nationally and in the metered markets with all three key adult demos. An astonishing 8 million viewers tuned in to some or all of the show while 1.6 million viewers watched from CTV’s key A25-54 demo.

AMERICAN IDOL delivered 36% more viewers from 8-9 p.m. than NCIS (Global, 2.15 million viewers) and over two million viewers more than NCIS: Los Angeles from 9-10 p.m. (Global, 1.4 million).

AMERICAN IDOL propelled LAW & ORDER: SVU to one of its highest audiences of the season at 10 p.m. on CTV. It was the #3 program of the night with 1.66 million viewers.
