Debuts November 1 with Critically Acclaimed and Award-Winning Original FX Series, Acquired Movies and Series, and Canadian Sports

LOS ANGELES and TORONTO, August 6, 2011 – Rogers Media Inc. and FX Networks have finalized an agreement to launch FX Canada. The announcement was made today at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour by Rogers Media President of Broadcasting, Scott Moore, and Eric Schrier, Executive Vice President of FX Productions and Head of Series Development for FX.

FX Canada will launch on November 1 as a digital service, and will deliver acclaimed programming to Canadian audiences including FX original series, U.S. acquired movies and series, original Canadian programming, and Canadian sports events.

“FX complements Rogers Media’s strong portfolio of broadcast assets such as Citytv, OLN and Rogers Sportsnet and showcases our commitment to building upon our television business,” commented Moore, President of Broadcasting, Rogers Media Inc. “There is a strong appetite in Canada for FX’s content and Rogers is thrilled to bring this award-winning programming to Canada. In addition to delivering FX’s unique content, the launch of FX Canada provides an additional outlet for Rogers Media to strategically invest in top tier homegrown series over time.”

Original FX series that will air on FX Canada will include the highly-anticipated new drama series American Horror Story, from producers Nip/Tuck and Glee, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, and starring Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Jessica Lange, Taissa Farmiga and Denis O’Hare; the hit comedy series Wilfred, starring Elijah Wood and Jason Gann; current season episodes of the hit comedy The League; and of the Emmy® Award nominated comedy Louie, starring Louis C.K. Library series include the first two seasons of the Golden Globe® winning drama Sons of Anarchy, Lights Out, and Terriers. Additional details, including a programming grid that will be unique to Canada, will be announced closer to launch.

“Canadian viewers and television journalists have been inquiring for years about the lack of full availability of FX’s great original series in Canada.    In response to their fervent desire we felt the next step was to establish a dedicated home for our shows and for the FX brand in Canada,” said Schrier. “We are thrilled to have found a partner in Rogers Media that has as great a passion for FX as we do, and the wherewithal to bring us into their market.”

Under the terms of the agreement, any new original FX programs produced by FX Productions or Twentieth Century Fox Television will air on FX Canada.

Big Brother 13 premieres Thursday, July 7 at 9 pm on Global/CBS. The cast and the “big twist” were revealed earlier this week. The funny thing is, only 8 houseguests were revealed. The twist is that former duos from Big Brother past will play a “significant” role in the upcoming game. CBS has listed a few possible names on their website including Jeff & Jordan, Rachel & Brendon, Dick & Daniele, Jessie & Natalie, Hayden & Enzo and Dr. Will & Mike “Boogie”.

Apparently these are just “names” that CBS has floated around but might not be the actual duo’s ending up in the house on premiere night. They are looking to add 3 duo’s bringing our houseguest count up to 14.

Here are the lucky 8 that will live it up this summer:

Adam Poch
A 39 year-old Music Inventory Manager from Hoboken, NJ

Cassi Colvin
A 26 year-old model from Nashville, TN.

Dominic Briones
A 25 year-old college student from San Mateo, CA.

Kalia Booker
A 30-year old writer from Los Angels, CA

Keith Henderson
A 32 year-old Human Resources Manager from Boilingbrook, IL.

Lawon Exum
A 29-year old Legal File Clerk from Inglewood, CA.

Porsche Briggs
A VIP Cocktail Waitress from Miami, FL.

Shelly Moore
A 41-year old Outdoors Industry Executive from Prairieville, LA.

Those crazy kids from the Jersey Shore are back and boarding a plane to Italy in the Season 4 premiere of Jersey Shore. The wildy popular series will return on August 4th MTV has announced.

The kids started in Jersey then headed to Miami. In the third season they returned to Seaside and in the 4th they’ve gone international.

It was reported that the Italian government and residence really did not want the show to be filmed and they were apparently under strict orders of no drinking or sex on camera. We’ll see if this actually pans out. TMZ has reported an altercation between Mike “The Situation” and Ronnie after only a few weeks in Italy.

Appearently the series has also been picked up for a fifth installment but no word on if the current cast has signed on the dotted line.

The perennial summertime favourite Big Brother is coming back to Global this July for it’s 13th season.

The show takes a group of strangers, throws them in a house and cuts them off from the outside world for 3 months. Each week they vote to evict each other until one person is left standing. Camera’s and microphones record their every move which is also broadcast on a 24/7 internet stream and on Big Brother: After Dark exclusive to Global’s reality network Global Reality Channel.

The show will be hosted again by Julie Chen and will air Wednesdays at 8pm, Thursdays at 9pm and Sundays at 8pm.

No announcement on potential houseguests or twists have been made.

More superstar perfomers have been added to the lineup for the 2011 Muchmusic Video Awards which goes down Sunday, June 18 on Muchmusic and Fuse (US).

Along with previously mentioned co-host Selena Gomez and the one and only Lady Gaga, Muchmusic has announced the additions to the lineup: Canadian bad girl, Avril Lavigne; R&B Crooner, Bruno Mars; Canadian rockers, City and Colour; and Indie Rockers, The Black Keys.

The show has become the ultimate show of the summer and gives fans an up-close and personal look at some of the best pop artists in the world.

Previous years performers have included Lady Gaga (remember the exploding bra?), NKOTB, Britney Spears, Miley Cirus and Rhianna. This year is sure to raise the bar yet again.

Hot off the heals of the annoucement that Cheryl Cole will be one of the hosts of the American X Factor, comes word that Pussycat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger, and British TV host Steve Jones will front the new series debuting this fall on FOX.

Nicole started her career on a talent competition show called Popstars (the WB) where she rose to fame as the leader of Eden’s Crush an all-girl group formed on the show. She then went on to become a member of the Pussycat Dolls and was a judge on NBC’s The Sing Off.

Steve Jones is a televison host from across the pond who has fronted several well known British productions. Let’s Dance for Comic Relief, As Seen on TV and When Women Rule the World are just some of his TV credits.

They join Cheryl Cole, LA Reid and of course Simon Cowell to round out the on-air talent for the show which is to debut in September 2011.

The Voice is here and it’s giving juggernaut American Idol a run for it’s money.

The show kicked off with a bang on Tuesday night (NBC/CTV) and it didn’t shy away from telling the audience how much it’s NOT Idol. We’ve all seen the promo’s so it wasn’t a complete surprise how “nice” all the judges were. There was no awful singers, no open calls, basically everything Idol is not.

Right off the bat pre-determined (non-filmed) contestants were brought on stage and began singing. The judges (Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguleira, Cee Lo Green) have their backs facing the artist. If they like what they hear they push a button and are turned around to face the artists (I got dizzy a couple of times). If more then one “coach” likes the artist then they must decide who they want to be teamed up with.

It was very interesting to see the reactions of the coaches when they saw the person that was singing. I would have appreciated it more if there was more genuine reactions but something tells me they were told to not make a big deal about it or were doing it out of respect.

Regardless.. it kept me entertained through the entire 2 hour show. If you haven’t guessed I am not the biggest American Idol fan. And this show will only take a couple of months from start to finish. Not like Idol where it’s a 4 month process.

And the viewing public agreed making it the number one show for the night and the best debut for a new series on any network since Undcover Boss (CBS) last year.

The one down fall? Carson Daly. He has never been my cup of tea and this did nothing to help that.

Did you watch? Will it take down Idol? Only time will tell.

What happens when people stop being polite, and start getting real? The longest (and first) reality show just got longer, MTV has officially picked up two more seasons of the series.

The show is currently in it’s 25th season (Las Vegas Redux) and currently casting for season 26. This pick up means the show will continue into it’s 28th season and most likely for many years after that. Like most shows the series is relitvely cheap to create which makes the season pick ups a no brainer for MTV.

The current season airs Wednesdays @ 10pm on MTV Canada.
