Lights, camera, action… at the start of the New Year, ET Canada kicked off its nationwide contest “Cheryl’s Celebrity Makeover” – calling on viewers to nominate the leading lady in their life for the full star treatment with Host Cheryl Hickey. The submissions for potential candidates have been remarkable, and fans continue to send in their contest entries by logging onto www.ETCanada.com.

“Cheryl is used to rubbing shoulders with the world’s biggest stars but she’s so excited to get out into Canada’s communities and meet these inspirational women,” said Tamara Simoneau, Senior Executive Producer, ET Canada. “Cheryl’s huge heart and down-to-earth style make her the perfect person to steer this exciting new segment.”

The inaugural segment features a new, young mother from Toronto, whose loving husband sent in his heartfelt application letter describing her courage and strength during the precarious first weeks of their daughter’s life who was born prematurely.

CANWEST ANNOUNCES 5TH PILOT

(TORONTO – November 27, 2008) – Building on the drama pilot slate announced last month, Canwest announced a fifth commission today.

Joining forces with acclaimed Canadian show runner Andrew Wreggitt (Mayerthorpe, Shades of Black, One Dead Indian), are producers Virginia Thompson and Robert de Lint of Vérité Films (Corner Gas), and Jeff Beesley (Borderline Normal); Canwest has commissioned the one hour pilot The Dealership.

The Dealership is a darkly funny, one-hour drama series about the dysfunctional world of Harrison Luxury Auto Gallery, a family-owned used-car dealership. Market collapse, credit crisis, the shrinking global economy – everything is conspiring against Rachel, Jack and Frank Harrison. But this main street family isn’t going down without a fight and will do whatever it takes to make the sale and live for another day.

“Andrew Wreggitt’s script is simply one of the most original we have seen” said Christine Shipton, SVP Dramatic and Factual Content, Canwest Broadcasting. “Adding to that, the team of Virginia, Robert and Jeff? It was a very easy call for us and we cannot wait to get started.”

Last summer, Bryan Baeumler and his crew headed out on the highway to cottage country – to battle the mosquitoes, get a good tan and help out hapless do-it-yourselfers. Along the way they also found a little time for boating, fishing and swimming. It’s just like the city-based version but the featured DIY disaster projects are those only found north of the city-limits.
