19-2Bravo has ordered an English remake of the French-Canadian series 19-2.

The scripted series will consist of ten on-hour episodes that will be shot in Quebec this fall for an early 2014 broadcast.

Bruce Smith (DURHAM COUNTY) acts as showrunner with Jesse Mckeown(DAVINCI’S INQUEST, ROGUE) serving as co-executive producer. With an average audience of 1.4 million viewers, 19-2 was a monster hit in Quebec, where the series premiered in 2011 and consistently won its timeslot in the A25-54 demo. Continue reading »

cbcCBC is adapting the acclaimed Lawrence Hill novel The Book of Negroes for TV.

The project – which will begin production this fall – will take the form of a mini-series that will air on CBC and American network BET.

The 2007 novel tells the story of an African woman who is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the southern US, before making her way to Halifax and later England.

Toronto-based filmmakers Clement Virgo and Damon D’Oliveira will produce the project through their Conquering Lion production company. Continue reading »

Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany was awarded for her epic effort on Orphan Black this week at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, picking up the best dramatic actress gong.

It was no mean feat for the Regina-born actress either, she was up against Claire Danes (Homeland), Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel) and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men).

For Tim McAuliffe it appears to be all about calling in favours from friends.

“Jessica Paré is someone who sort of hung out at our apartment a lot,” McAuliffe told TV Guide Canada.

“She’s a friend, and she used to sleep over a lot because she was a good friend of [real-life roommate] Claire, who is played by Leah. So, she spent a lot of time there and we’ve remained friends over the years. She came in last week and filmed for 13 hours. That was really nice of her.” Continue reading »

The beloved Canadian animated series Inspector Gadget will be headlining alongside the new series Pirate Express.

Rocket Monkeys (season 2), Endangered Species (season 2), Total Drama (season 6) and Johnny Test (season 7) have all been renewed.

Stephen Amell and his wife Cassandra Jean are expecting a child and the actor couldn’t be happier about it.

“I’m excited — no I’m not excited, I’m very excited!” Amell told ET Canada. “I’m sure that nervous energy will accompany that eventually, but only in a positive way.”

Arrow is due back on CTV this fall.

Perception2Canadian actor Eric McCormack has given his thoughts on where he thinks his character Will from Will & Grace would be today.

McCormack was speaking to Uinterview.com about his new role in Perception when he compared his two characters.

The highly-regarded Orphan Black actress has joined Jeff Berg’s new talent company Resolution in the same week that she was awarded the best actress gong at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

Maslany will be seen in the second season of Orphan Black after BBC American renewed it following the success of the first season.
