OMNI to air first Mandarin broadcast of MLB match in Canada

OMNI_logoOMNI Television has confirmed it will air the very first Mandarin broadcast of an MLB game in Canada this week.

The Toronto Blue Jays match against the Boston Red Sox on June 27 will be broadcast in the Mandarin language, with Taiwan-native Chien-Ming Wang scheduled to start as pitcher for the Blue Jays.

To anchor the special coverage, OMNI Television’s Wei Lee will call the play-by-play with former Taiwanese baseball player Robert Wu as analyst.

“The city has Blue Jays fever, and the reaction from the Taiwanese and Chinese communities toward Chien-Ming Wang’s stellar game play has been extraordinary to watch,” said Madeline Ziniak, National Vice-President, OMNI Television. “The rising interest in Blue Jays baseball demonstrates the growth of the brand among ethnocultural groups across Canada.”

For English audiences, all 162 Blue Jays regular season games – including Thursday’s Blue Jays @ Red Sox – air on Sportsnet or Sportsnet ONE, plus Sportsnet 590 The FAN and RogersAnyplaceTV.
