Amazing Race Canada is biggest challenge yet for double amputee

JodyCoryDouble amputee Jody Mitic says competing in The Amazing Race Canada was his “biggest challenge” yet.

The 36-year-old former Canadian Forces sniper lost both his legs when he stepped on a landmine in Afghanistan but continues to challenge himself as much as possible, including competing in the gruelling new CTV series with his younger brother.

“We decided to just go for it,” says Mitic. “I approach most things like, ‘I’ll worry about it when it happens.’

“I surprised myself. There’s nobody more surprised by some of the things I pulled off than me,” said Mitic. “Some of what I thought were my limits, I can actually go a lot further.”

Mitic says he would have been pretty much stuck if anything happened to his prosthetics while on the race.

“If something goes wrong with my leg, I just call my guy, he fixes it. That’s not available in the middle of nowhere . . . my prosthetic breaks, I’m stuck,” he said. “But at the same time, if another contestant breaks their leg, they’re in just as much trouble, right?”
