Rogers shutting down CityNews TV channel

PrintRogers Communications has pulled the plug on its CityNews channel.

After 20 months on air, the specialty network will shut down, according to the president of broadcast at Rogers Media Scoot Moore.

“Today, we made changes to the company’s television strategy to reflect evolving viewer habits and the global structural shift in advertising,” he said in a statement.

It is understood 62 jobs will be lost as Rogers moves focus to its 24-hour news radio station 680News and CityNews on City.

“While difficult, these changes enable us to continue to focus our efforts where we know the market is growing, while helping us to effectively manage our costs,” Moore says.
