FX turns to Canada for next big series

sons-of-anarchy-s5FX Network president John Landgraf is looking to Canada to provide the network with its next big thing.

Landgraf – who heads the LA-based network responsible for the likes of Sons of Anarchy, Shield and The Americans – is looking to collaborate with Canadian producers on new series.

Canada is not unfamiliar territory to Landgraf, whose network has two Canadian-shot series on the go already in Guillermo del Toro’s vampire series The Strain and the new Joel and Ethan Coen project.

He has started up two new channels in FXM, a movie channel, and FXX, which will debut on Rogers next January.

FXX will aim to target the 18-34 year-old demographic.

“But you can’t just stick a channel on the air and show the same stuff,” says Landgraf. “You have to have original material that keeps people coming back.”
