The Office - Season 9The Office’s John Krasinksi has been cast in Arrested Development.

The actor, best known for playing Jim Halpert in the US version of The Office, will join the fourth season of Arrested Development in a guest role.

No details of his role has been released but Krasinski joins the likes of Seth Rogen (This IS The End), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids), Conan O’Brien (The Conan O’Brien Show), Isla Fisher (The Wedding Crashers) and John Slattery (Mad Men) in making a cameo in the Netflix season. Continue reading »

National Geographic’s Border Security has come under fire in recent months after the filming of an immigration raid at a building site in BC.

Last week, over 174 Canadian artists including Nicola Cavendish, Margo Kidder, Sandy Wilson, Patrick Corbett, Min Sook Lee and Aisha Alfa objected to the reality series in a public letter. Continue reading »

Hosted by MTV’s own sports enthusiast, Aliya-Jasmine Sovani, Play With AJ is a new original series for MTV Canada that will see sports and pop culture collide.

Viewers can expect a diverse array of interviews and topics ranging from an interview with Tim McGraw about his wife Faith Hill taking over the theme song for NBC’s SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL; chatting with NHL alums Scott Thornton and P.J. Stock about how they spent their first big paycheck; and finding out exactly what kind of music the New York Knicks listen to. The fresh new series is broadcast from MTV’s new HD studios at Bell Media’s 299 Queen St. West headquarters in Toronto.

Play With AJ begins May 2 at 10.30pm ET / 7.30pm PT.

AllMyChildrenFX Canada has released an interesting piece of research regarding the soap viewing habits of Canadian men.

The network hosted a survey examining the male audiences of soap dramas and found that while it is a genre geared towards women, men are also big fans of the daytime drama. Continue reading »

RectifyNetflix will air the new drama series Recify in Canada at the same time as it airs on the Sundance Channel in the US.

The deal between Netflix and ITV Studios Global Entertainment means the series from Oscar winner Ray McKinnon will air weekly alongside the US broadcast.

The series features Aden Young (Killer Elite), Abigail Spencer (Cowboys and Aliens, Mad Men), Clayne Crawford (Justified), Adelaide Clemens (Lie to Me) and Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild). Continue reading »

Insight Productions is gearing up America, Eh!, which they describe as a “360 degree media concept that will include distinct online, mobile and social media content, anchored by a hilarious one hour series”.

After more than 1,100 entrants submitted 1,600 videos (an increase of 18% and 65% respectively from 2012), the best rockers, crooners, and song birds have been chosen for a coveted spot in the semifinals.

satisfaction2Work is underway on a new Canadian comedy series called Satisfaction.

The half-hour comedy for CTV comes from the mind of Tim McAuliffe (The Office, Up All Night) and features Ryan Belleville (The LA Complex, Going the Distance), Luke Macfarlane (Brothers & Sisters) and Leah Renee (The Playboy Club).

The 13-episode, half-hour comedy series begins shooting in and around Toronto today (April 29) through July 2013.

OrphanBlack3Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany used different musical playlists to help her get into the mind-sets of the different women she plays on Orphan Black.

“The music for me was an extra step, something that physicalized that or made it more emotional for me,” she tells the Hollywood Reporter.

“Music is like a lifeblood; it changes the way I move, it changes the way I feel about myself, the way I walk into the room is different depending on the song I was just listening to. The external development of the aesthetic of each character.”

Maslany says that all of her characters are written “so specifically and with such complexity and with respect for each of the characters”. Continue reading »
