Wayne Gretzky's daughter Paulina wants your love Canada

The 24-year-old daughter of Canadian hockey legend Wayne Gretzky is looking to build her profile in Canada this month thanks to a TV special and a magazine cover.

Paulina Gretzky – who is known more for her racy Twitter photos – will be the subject of a 30-minute City special tonight and is gracing the cover of Flare magazine this month.

Her goal is a career in music but thanks to the release of a number of questionable photos on Twitter she is not being taken as seriously as she might hope.

However, gracing the cover of Flare may be the start of an image makeover for the 24-year-old.

“She seems to be trying to reinvent herself. The Flare cover is certainly much more tasteful than the photos that were going around Twitter this time last year,” said Scott Henderson, an associate professor in Brock University’s department of communication, popular culture and film.

Henderson believes that the Gretzky name will work in her favour in Canada and give her the chance to work her way in to the American conscience, just like her father did on his move to the Los Angeles Kings in the 1980s.

“If she has a target market, it’s not really people who grew up with Gretzky. It’s people who knew of him. Maybe coming back to Canada where there is that overlap is significant,” Henderson said.
