Shaun Majumder taking inspiration from famous shows

Shaun Majumder has joked that he took inspiration from Newhart for his new series Majumder Manor.

The Canadian comic quipped that he wanted to be the Newfoundland version of the 1980s series Newhart.

“Yeah, kinda,” he said. “(Bob Newhart) had that beautiful old inn (in the 1980s series Newhart). Ours is a little more modern.”

He then went on to say that classic British comedy series Fawlty Towers was more his thing.

“But no, I actually have no desire to be Newhart. I want to be Fawlty Towers. That’s really where it’s at.”

Majumder says it’s hard to pin down exactly where his series fits in genre-wise.

“It’s real, it’s more real than reality. It’s too real to be reality TV.”

Majumder Manor begins on W on January 7.
