Photos: Freaks and Geeks cast reunion

The cast of one of the best short-lived comedy series on TV has staged a reunion twelve years after their show was cancelled.

The entire cast of the 1999 comedy series Freaks and Geeks has reunited to discuss their experience on the short-lived series, which ran for one brilliant season before it was given the axe.

The Judd Apatow-created series was heralded as being ahead of its time but faced strong opposition from its network, NBC, who eventually cut it.

Freaks and Geeks launched the careers of the likes of Seth Rogan, James Franco, Linda Cardellini, Busy Philipps and Jason Segel and the first season included bit parts from the likes of Shia LaBeouf, Rashida Jones, Lizzy Caplan and Ben Foster.

“The reviews were great, and the premiere had a really high rating,” co-creator Paul Feig remembers. “The first Monday back I stood on a table and read the ratings and everybody cheered. And the next week we just dropped huge”

Philipps, who is now featuring on Cougar Town, says: “I feel that what Judd [Apatow], Paul [Feig] and Jake [Kasdan] were able to do on that show, even though we were all relatively young and mostly inexperienced, was validate our ideas and talent by always giving us room to collaborate with them even at age 17, 18, 19. It’s invaluable to get that kind of confidence just in the beginning of your career — that you know what you’re doing.”
