Corus forced to explain OWN Canada's shift in programming focus

Corus Entertainment is being asked to explain to a Canadian tribunal why Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Canada has neglected its educational programming mandate.

They will face the CRTC hearing on December 11 to explain why OWN has moved away from its Canadian broadcast license that focussed on education towards more celebrity and relationship fare.

The channel risks getting shut down in Canada should Corus not adequately explain the situation.

The CRTC is looking for OWN to screen more programming based on “basic adult education, job development skills or professional development”.
