Starting at 6:30 p.m. (7 NT) on January 1, 2013, Corrie fans can tune in to get a triple dose of the world famous soap opera.

Rebel Wilson has been named as the host of the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.

The Australian actress will take control of the ceremony next year, which has been brought forward to take place in the spring rather than June.

Wilson has appeared in a number of popular comedies over the past year including Bridesmaids, Pitch Perfect and Bachelorette.

As 2012 comes to an end, CTV News looks back on all the top news stories of the year, beginning Sunday, Dec. 23 in CTV National News.

The bloody violence of the ongoing Syrian uprising continuously topped headlines this year, locking it into the #1 spot on CTV National News’s Top 10 News Stories of the year.

The Syrian crisis is followed by last week’s tragic U.S. school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut at #2, and rounding out the Top 3 stories of 2012 is coverage of continuing worldwide financial struggles.

The CW has pulled the pin on struggling Canadian series The L.A. Complex.

The US network has decided not to renew the drama for a third season.

On this side of the border, MuchMusic let the show go in November, leaving The CW to make the decision on whether or not to keep the series afloat.

While there is a small chance the show could be revived on a different network, we shouldn’t be holding out too much hope. Continue reading »

Rogers Media today received approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to acquire Métro14 Montréal. The deal is expected to close in early 2013, with Citytv Montreal launching later that year.

Today’s announcement follows the previous Rogers Media program affiliate agreement with Métro14 Montréal, which took effect June 2012.

Citytv Montreal marks the third expansion for the brand in 2012, as Citytv moves towards a national footprint for its premium programming.

In summer 2012, Citytv launched Citytv Saskatchewan and Citytv programming became available long-term in three key markets in Western Canada – Kamloops, B.C., Prince George, B.C., and Medicine Hat, AB. CTV Toronto’s Tom Brown has been awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Recognized for his work on the station’s annual Toy Mountain campaign benefitting The Salvation Army, Brown has helped make wishes come true on Christmas morning for thousands of children across the GTA since becoming involved when he joined CTV News in 2004.

Presided over by the Honourable David C. Onley, Brown received the prestigious award in a ceremony held last night at Queen’s Park in Toronto.

“It was my privilege to nominate Tom Brown for the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal,” said Major John Murray of The Salvation Army. “Tom is a passionate supporter of the Salvation Army and those that we serve. He is dedicated and committed to helping raise awareness of The Salvation Army’s work and he is engaged in every aspect of the CTV Toy Mountain Campaign.
