CBC ask for more flexibility with licence

CBC has asked for a more flexible licence from federal regulators as its first review in over a decade got underway.

The broadcaster is looking to broadcast 5% less Canadian content on its English-language network as well as introduce advertising to some of its radio stations.

President Hubert Lacroix argued that a lot has changed in the TV landscape since they received their current licences and that they need more flexibility.

“The financial challenges we face are daunting. But we will meet them, and we will balance our budget,” said Lacroix.

He went on to stress that CBC “cannot and will not make commitments we know we may not be able to fulfil.”
