100th Grey Cup Playoffs kick off with big audiences on TSN

The 100th Grey Cup Playoffs got off to a roaring start on TSN, as the CFL’s Eastern and Western Semifinal games delivered impressive audiences yesterday.

Overnight data from BBM Canada confirms that the Western Semifinal, featuring Saskatchewan @ Calgary in a game punctuated by a wild finish, attracted an average audience of 1.6 million viewers on TSN – marking a 32% increase compared to last year.

Audience levels peaked at 2.6 million viewers when Calgary receiver Romby Bryant caught a 68-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds left in the game.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Eastern Semifinal with Edmonton @ Toronto was watched by an average audience of 1.1 million viewers on TSN – up 5% compared to last year. The audience peaked at 1.6 million viewers on TSN as the clock ticked down in the fourth quarter to seal the Argos’ victory.

Overall, more than 5.6 million Canadians tuned in to watch some of the 100th Grey Cup Playoffs on TSN yesterday.
