Fired Canadian sportscaster appears in US anti-gay marriage ad

Former Rogers Sportsnet presenter Damian Goddard, who lost his job with the broadcaster last year, has appeared in a US advert asking people to vote against gay marriage.

Canadian Goddard was let go by Rogers last May after tweeting his support for traditional marriage following a pro-gay marriage ad featuring New York Ranger Sean Avery that drew criticism from hockey agent Todd Reynolds.

Goddard tweeted: “I completely and wholeheartedly support Todd Reynolds and his support for the traditional and TRUE meaning of marriage.”

At the time, Rogers released the following statement: “Mr. Goddard was a freelance contractor and in recent weeks it had become clear that he is not the right fit for our organization.”

Goddard can now be seen in a 17-second ad spot airing in Maine that highlights his dismissal last year for supporting traditional marriage.

“Don’t let this happen in Maine,” he says at the end of the ad.
