Four house-proud and ultra-competitive Canadians open their homes to cameras, criticism and critiques as they vie for the title of best home, and the pride and prize that comes with it, in each episode of Four Houses Canada, the brand-new HGTV Canada series by Proper Television.
The first peer-review design competition of its kind in Canada features oddball characters and hugely diverse design styles – all underscored by a humorous narrator who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is.
Based on the hit UK format May The Best House Win which is distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment with international versions in six countries to date, Four Houses Canada (13 x 60) premieres Thurs., Aug. 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV Canada.
“The idea of Canadians being polite to a fault goes out the window in Four Houses Canada as each homeowner passes a critical eye over each other’s homes,” says Guy O’Sullivan, president, Proper Television. “A thrill for any voyeur at home, the series gives viewers a peek inside homes that range from amazing to bizarre – depending on who is doing the judging of course. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
In each episode of Four Houses Canada, four confident homeowners with very different tastes, opinions and personalities tour each other’s homes and score each property based on style, design, originality, livability and overall impressions. The homeowner with the highest score wins bragging rights, a cash prize of $1,000, and a feature spread in Style at Home magazine. From a trendy airplane-themed loft complete with cockpit-style seating to an uber-modern mansion with a private screening room and home gym called the ‘Belvedere’, Four Houses Canada takes viewers inside wild and wonderful Canadian homes and introduces them to the sometimes wilder people who own them.
