Sharlene Chiu explores Asian culture, diversity, and music in Sharlene vs Hong Kong, April 16 on MTV

Covering the amazing lives of young people across the globe, MTV NEWS reporter Sharlene Chiu takes viewers to the hustle and bustle of “Asia’s World City” in SHARLENE VS. HONG KONG, premiering Monday, April 16 at 8 p.m. ET.

In the eighth installment of this MTV Canada original series, Sharlene dives deep into Hong Kong’s eclectic music scene hitting up its most popular indie rock festival Clockenflap, parties with an heiress, uncovers Hong Kong’s underground film industry, and captures an exclusive and last-ever interview with the late young Canadian singer, Joey Basha.

In just 30 minutes, SHARLENE VS. HONG KONG covers a lot of ground as viewers are taken on a unique tour through diverse cultures and music scenes beyond the tourist beaten paths.

First, Sharlene hits up Hong Kong’s biggest indie rock festival Clockenflap, where she checks out local indie band Tigerbombers and New York’s The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart.

Checking out Hong Kong’s fashion scene, Sharlene goes shopping with the city’s resident pop star Kary Ng at the largest shopping centre in Hong Kong, Harbour City. Capping off the tour Sharlene makes a special cameo appearance on the hit game show ATM, and explores Hong Kong’s intense nightlife with actress, heiress, and lead singer of Josie And The Uni Boys, Josie Ho.

MTV also captures on this tour, the last-ever interview with Milkteeth lead singer, and Newfoundland native Joey Basha, a mere eight days before his tragic death in downtown Hong Kong.
