American Idol returns on CTV, January 18

CTV announced today the episode roll-out of AMERICAN IDOL as the remarkable 11th season, featuring host Ryan Seacrest and returning judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, premieres with a two-night event, Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV and Thursday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two (visit ctv.ca/two and ctv.ca to confirm local listings).

Auditions continue with a special broadcast of AMERICAN IDOL Sunday, Jan. 22 immediately following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME at 10 p.m. ET on CTV.

With the addition of new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler last year, the 10th season of AMERICAN IDOL on CTV shot to the top, ranking as the #2 program in Canada (up from #4 the previous year) with total viewers last winter and spring. Second only to CTV’s THE BIG BANG THEORY, AMERICAN IDOL also reigned as the #1 program on CTV Two last season.

The show’s judges including Jackson, Lopez and Tyler, travel to Savannah, Aspen, Galveston, Pittsburgh, Portland, San Diego and St. Louis in search of contestants with the raw talent and potential to become the next AMERICAN IDOL. Auditions continue on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV and Thursday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two; Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV and Thursday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two; and Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.

The contestants who impress the judges head to Hollywood and are put to the ultimate test during the “Hollywood Rounds,” airing Thursday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two; Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV; and Thursday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two.

On Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV, those who make it through Hollywood compete in the “Performance Challenge,” where they face the judges one last time before the top male and top female semifinalists are revealed on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two.

The judges have their say after every performance, but the viewers determine who advances to the next round of the competition and who will go home. During the milestone 400th episode, airing on a special night, Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV, the first group of semifinalists will take the stage to sing for viewer’s votes.

The following night, Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV, the remaining semifinalists perform. The competition takes an intense turn on the two-hour LIVE results show Thursday, March 1 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two, as America’s votes reveal the first set of finalists. The remaining contestants have one last chance to perform for the judges who will round out the 2012 AMERICAN IDOL finalists with their wild card picks.

The next week, the competition heats up when the finalists take the stage on Wednesday, March 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV to perform LIVE. One finalist’s journey will end as America’s vote is revealed on Thursday, March 8 at 8 p.m. ET LIVE on CTV Two.
