Ron James’ New Year’s Special airs January 1 on CBC

Ring in the New Year with Canada’s iconic funnyman, Ron James, as he returns to the airwaves for his annual New Year’s tradition of bringing laughter to Canadians

THE RON JAMES SHOW: NEW YEAR’S EDITION airs Sunday, January 1 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT), on CBC Television, in an extended one hour version of James’ quick-witted comedy.

In his sixth annual New Year’s special, comedian Ron James puts 2011 to bed as only he can, then looks ahead to 2012, sincerely hoping the Mayans were just having a bad day at the temple when they made their famous doomsday prediction.

Joining James to celebrate are special guests Sonja Smits, Eric Peterson, Michael Therriault, Raoul Bhaneja, Kathy Greenwood, Matt Baram and Lauren Ash.

Of course it wouldn’t be New Year’s without Aunt Vivien’s annual message to the royal family, and her homespun advice to newlyweds Will and Kate is as cut and dried as Marks and Spencer shortbread; a usually quiet electronics store manager channels General Patton to rally his troops for the battle known as Boxing Day; guests of Canada’s greatest 19th century detective Mordecai Moncton learn that attending one of his parties can be murder; a top military official is in the hot seat for accidentally shooting down a certain bearded, jolly, red-suited man on Christmas Eve; and Lil Ronnie is staging a covert operation of his own, up way past his bedtime trying to raid the snack table of Ma and Pa’s New Year’s party; and in a special musical number to close the show, a mall and chain weary Ron pays cranky tribute to the season with fellow survivors of the holiday madness.

THE RON JAMES SHOW showcases the talents of renowned and much-beloved comedian Ron James, and his poetically charged observations about surviving life in the modern world. Anchored by James’ hilarious stand-up and cutting field sketches that are rich in satire and physical comedy, THE RON JAMES SHOW is a coast-to-coast hit on CBC-TV.
