Shaw Media salutes its production partners on their Gemini Award wins.

Three nights of celebrations culminated last night with big wins for Shaw Media programs: Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role for Callum Keith Rennie in Global’s Shattered and Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role for Michelle Thrush in Blackstone, Showcase’s co-production with APTN.

This extends the winning from last week’s industry awards, at which Shaw Media’s programming garnered a number of statuettes.

“In a highly-competitive year filled with such dynamic Canadian programming, it’s a thrill to see many of our outstanding productions honoured for their amazing work,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media. “We applaud all of our production partners, writing teams and incredible talent on their Gemini Award wins.”

 

Industry Night One Wins:

In the news category, Global National’s Anchor and Executive Editor Dawna Friesen was recognized for her superb efforts over the year with the Gemini Award for Best News Anchor. Global BC was chosen as the nation’s Best Local Newscast, Large Market and Global’s 16:9 The Bigger Picture, won for Best Lifestyle/Practical Information Segment. 

The number one source for entertaining and engaging Canadian historic programming, History Television walked away with five Gemini Award wins for some of its most impactful content. Bringing the true stories of Canadian veterans into the digital age and preserving their legacy for generations to come, the robust companion website to the moving series Storming Juno was awarded the Gemini for Best Cross-Platform Project Non-Fiction. History Television’s intense and electrifying documentary series Nazi Hunters was awarded a Gemini for Best History Documentary Program and Best Direction in a Documentary Series. The top-rated series Ice Pilots NWT was also recognized in two categories, winning Best Photography in an Information Program or Series and Best Original Music for a Lifestyle/Practical Information or Reality Program or Series

After dominating the nominations for Best Host in a Lifestyle/Practical Information Series and Best Lifestyle/Practical Information Series Shaw Media congratulates SliceTM series’, Princess, and show host Gail Vaz-Oxlade, as well as Til Debt Do Us Part on their wins and commend our production partners for being leaders in lifestyle content.

 

Industry Night Two Wins:

History Television’s first foray into dramatic entertainment, The Kennedys took home awards in three categories. Barry Pepper was awarded the Gemini for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series, while Diana Hardcastle was recognized in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series category. The Kennedys also walked away with the Gemini Award for Best Photography in a Dramatic Program or Series.

Ksenia Solo was acknowledged for her portrayal of Kenzi on Showcase’s number one original series Lost Girl. Blackstone, was awarded the Gemini for Best Achievement in Main Title Design. Global’s presentation of the 18th Annual National Aboriginal Achievement Awards walked away with two Geminis – one for Best Performance or Host in a Variety Program or Series (Individual or Ensemble) and one for Best Photography in a Variety Series or Performing Arts Program or Series.
