In the premiere episode, DEGRASSI goes digital, as cast member Melinda Shankar tells APP CENTRAL how to create a DEGRASSI character that can walk the school’s hallways using the DEGRASSI app, in the first installment of the new Celeb e-Watch segment. The first of seven new APP CENTRAL contributors, Doug Stephens, showcases the latest in retail apps. Music historian Allan Cross shows viewers how to become their own personal DJ with up-to-the-minute music apps that turns users into rock stars. And the season’s first gadget review takes flight with the latest in flying gadgetry.

“APP CENTRAL is the first and most-successful app television program in Canada, helping viewers turn their mobile phone into a destination for business and pleasure,” said Jack Fleischmann, Vice-President and General Manager, BNN. “It’s for every kind of mobile device and for every kind of mobile user: from the business professional to parents, their kids and even their pets!”

New for Season Two of APP CENTRAL, Co-Hosts, Amber MacArthur and Michael Hainsworth deliver more Smartphone and tablet knowhow with an interactive segment called The Help Desk, tackling viewer questions using real world examples and demonstrations. In Celeb e-Watch, stars like Susanne Somers, Mary Murphy, Nelly Furtado, and Robert Englund offer up their social media, technology, and Smartphone/tablet habits to resident power-friender Amber MacArthur. Finally, APP CENTRAL has recruited seven new regular contributors who will also blog for appcentral.ca on the topics they appear on the program for. APP CENTRAL contributors include Daniel Bader, Maurice Cacho, Simon Cohen, Ian Hardy, Winston Sih, Doug Stephens, and Andy Walker.

APP CENTRAL is an original 30-minute co-production that is commissioned by BNN and CP24.  The program originally launched as the first show dedicated to apps in Canada on April 3, 2011. The first season of APP CENTRAL explored the growing culture and business of apps for Smartphones and tablets.

Highlights from Season 1 range from Amber MacArthur playing Angry Birds with author Margret Atwood to Michael Hainsworth turning a robot alarm clock against intrepid reporter Kris Abel. Abel spent the season pushing tech boundaries by unleashing lions on iPads and challenging BNN’s Howard Green to compete through the app Push Up Wars while on the wing of an airplane.  APP CENTRAL is produced by Michael Bancroft.
