The Kennedys is a global hit

The Kennedys continues its winning streak across the globe with over 2.6 million viewers tuning in for the series premiere episode on BBC Two in the UK on June 17.

Audience numbers remained steady for the follow-up episode the same night with over 2.3 million viewers, outperforming BBC2’s year-to-date slot average of 1.6m and 1.57m respectively.

Since its world premiere on ReelzChannel in the U.S. this past April, which brought in a record breaking  2 million plus viewers per episode, The Kennedys was the highest rated dramatic program ever for History Television in Canada for its opening episode with over 1,000,000 viewers. The mini-series also pulled in 425,000 viewers for the opening four episodes on History UK, making it History’s top performing series ever; 766,000 viewers in Sweden for the premiere of the series as well as an 18.5% share for the first two episodes on RTBF in French language Belgium and a 24.77% share for episode one in Ireland on RTE.

“The Kennedys continues to perform beyond expectations in the markets where it is broadcast” says Michael Prupas, an executive producer of the miniseries and President of its distributor, Muse Distribution International. “The reason why the BBC Two executives were so delighted about the size of its audience is because it came after the show had already been shown on History Channel UK”, he continued.

The Kennedys has been licensed by more than 50 territories around the world for broadcast in 2011 including Quebec’s Super Ėcran, France Television 3, Japan’s NHK, Switzerland’s TSR, Italy’s La Sette, Spain’s Telecinco, Norway’s NRK, New Zealand’s Sky TV, Israel’s IBA, Finland’s YLE and Australia’s ABC.
