Canadian chef Roger Mooking battles Iron Chef Michael Symon on Iron Chef America

What better way to end your Canada Day weekend celebrations than with three Canadian battles in Kitchen Stadium.  

Our very own Canadian celebrity chef Roger Mooking, host of Food Network Canada’s Everyday Exotic (Tuesdays at 7pm ET/4pm PT) takes on Iron Chef Michael Symon in an intense episode of Iron Chef America that will premiere on Sunday, July 3 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on Food Network Canada as part of a Canada Day weekend Iron Chef America marathon.

When Chef Mooking was called to take centre stage in Kitchen Stadium, he and his two sous chefs, Stuart Cameron and Nelson Fernandez from Roger’s two former Toronto restaurants Kultura and Nyood respectively, packed up their knives and prepared for battle. Pitted against Iron Chef Michael Symon, Chef Mooking and his team will have only 60 minutes to create a four-star meal using the famed secret ingredient revealed at the beginning of the taping.

The Chairman, Mark Dacascos, oversees the battle between Mooking and Symon and Food Network Canada’s Thirsty Traveler, Kevin Brauch, exposes the goings-on in each competitor’s kitchen as he reports from the action-packed floor.  Alton Brown, host of Food Network’s Good Eats, offers play-by-play analyses and personal insights as dishes are created and tensions rise.  An all-star judging panel, including sports broadcasters Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton; Donatella Arpaia, New York and Miami restaurateur and cookbook author; and Andrew Zimmern, award-winning host of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods, score each dish for taste, presentation and originality and declare victory for one chef. 

Kicking off the Canada Day weekend marathon is internationally renowned Chef Lynn Crawford, host of Food Network Canada’s Pitchin’ In, who was the first Canadian woman to be invited to compete on Iron Chef America in 2006.  In the epic battle between Iron Chef Bobby Flay and Montreal Chef Chuck Hughes, host of Food Network’s Chuck’s Day Off, Hughes became the youngest Canadian chef to win an Iron Chef America competition.
