HBO Canada rolls out multi-platform blitz of Game of Thrones on air, on demand and online

HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada), is preparing audiences for the vast fantasy world of HBO’s epic new series Game of Thrones through a series of long- and short-form videos and engaging online elements.

Fans can step into the World of Westeros now to get a taste of the buzzed-about series prior to its television premiere on Sunday, April 17, with more material launching over the coming weeks.

The following content will be available through a variety of platforms, including: on air on HBO Canada; online at; on demand via HBO Canada On Demand (where available); free-of-charge via the Video On Demand services of participating television providers; and via HBO Canada OnLine with participating television providers.

Viewers can gear up for the premiere and become experts on the World of Westeros now through the Game of Thrones Exclusive Preview, a special sneak preview of the first 15 minutes of the series, and Making Game of Thrones, a 30-minute behind-the-scenes primer featuring cast interviews and clips.

Author George R. R. Martin introduces the four main families and core characters vying for control of the Iron Throne in The House Featurettes, a series of short videos currently available. Explore how the Starks, Lannisters, Baratheons and Targaryens play into the Game of Thrones. Longer form versions will roll out as new episodes premiere.

Experts and artisans explain their craft and their experiences on Game of Thrones in The Artisans, a series of behind-the-scenes videos now available that delve into the unique costumes, weapons, sword training, stunts, set design, cuisine and more.

Visitors to can also catch special interviews available now with key cast members Sean Bean, Emilia Clarke and Peter Dinklage, all courtesy of Movie Entertainment’s Teri Hart. Fans that visit can also connect now to HBO’s array of online extras, including: HBO’s official blog for the series, Making Game of Thrones; The Maester’s Path, an online game where users are asked to complete sensory challenges that unlock Game of Thrones-related rewards.

Beginning Monday, April 18, will be the exclusive home of original Game of Thrones online offerings such as: The Night’s Watch Blog, a weekly blog offering updates on the episodes, themes, settings and characters featured in the series; and The Citadel, a dedicated page that will contain weekly quizzes. Visitors to the site will also have access to  a 20% discount offer via a promotional code for select Game of Thrones related merchandise at on April 18. Finally, coming soon is Own The Throne, an avatar generator that will put users on the Iron Throne.

Based on the bestselling fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones is a 10-part epic fantasy series that follows kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and noblemen as they vie for power and control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.
