Yesterday's Super Bowl the most-watched TV program of all time

Yesterday’s Super Bowl has just been confirmed as the most-watched program in US television history, beating last year’s match by around 4.5 million viewers.

111 million viewers tuned yesterday in to see the Green Bay Packers defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers, a total that surpasses the previous TV audience record of 106.5m.

Not surprisingly the list of the most-watched TV programs in the US is dominated by the Super Bowl, which claims 8 of the top 10 places.

The only scripted shows to make the list are the finale of M*A*S*H in 1983 which pulled 106m viewers and the 100-minute finale special of Cheers in 1993 which was viewed by 93.1m.
