Paul Rogers, Jack Fleischmann and David Hughes appointed to new roles at CTV News

Wendy Freeman, President, CTV News has announced the following appointments within the news division: Paul Rogers, Senior Vice-President, CTV News, adds editorial responsibilities for CTV’s 21 local stations to his portfolio; Jack Fleischmann, General Manager for BNN – Business News Network, adds CTV News Channel to his responsibilities; and David Hughes becomes Executive Producer CTV NATIONAL NEWS.

Reporting to the President of News, Paul Rogers is now serving as the point person for local CTV station News Directors on editorial issues requiring guidance or direction while maintaining his current responsibilities at CTV Toronto. Rogers has been the Senior Vice-President, CTV News since 2004. Under his leadership, CTV Toronto has maintained its position as Toronto’s #1 newscast at noon, 6 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Prior to taking the reins at CTV Toronto, he was the Vice-President, CTV News and Executive Producer of CTV’s national morning show, CANADA AM. From 1997 to 2003, Rogers was News Director and Executive Producer at Global Television Ontario. Previously, he spent 11 years at CFTO Toronto as a Reporter and Producer. Before joining CTV News, Rogers worked for CFRB in Toronto as an Anchor and Reporter. He began his career in 1979 at CKFH Radio in Toronto, as a News Reporter and Anchor.

Jack Fleischmann expands his duties to include CTV News Channel while continuing his role as the General Manager of BNN. A longtime television executive, Fleischmann has been involved in broadcast and online news in Canada for the past 30 years. It was more than 10 years ago that he launched Canada’s first all-news business channel, Report on Business Television, later to become BNN, and as the General Manager, he is responsible for both the business itself and its editorial direction. Always searching for new and original ideas, in 1995 Fleischmann founded Toronto’s News Theatre, an innovative television studio designed and equipped for media and corporate events. Previously, he held a variety of positions at CTV including parliamentary reporter at CJOH (CTV Ottawa), Executive Producer at CANADA AM, Executive Producer at CTV NEWS and Executive Producer CTV News Specials and as a reporter on foreign assignment in locations from Central America to the Middle East and Asia. Fleischmann began his career in 1975 as a CBC radio producer in Ottawa. 

David Hughes has been promoted to Executive Producer, CTV NATIONAL NEWS. Hughes is no stranger to this News division; for the last 10 years he has been the Senior Producer of CTV NATIONAL NEWS WITH LLOYD ROBERTSON. During his tenure he has helped shape news coverage ranging from the Iraq War to the Olympics while ensuring CTV NATIONAL NEWS never lost sight of the domestic issues at hand. An award-winning producer, prior to joining CTV NATIONAL NEWS, Hughes was a pivotal member of the team that launched CTV News Channel (CTV News1) and oversaw the coverage of the September 11th attacks. Hughes has held a worked in a number of positions at CTV News including at the assignment desk, as producer of various CTV News specials, and as a segment producer, writer and tape producer. Before joining CTV, he worked as a show producer and writer for CHCH-TV Hamilton.
