History Television is pleased to welcome one of the most buzzed-about television events of the year, The Kennedys to its Spring line up. The Kennedys will air as a four-part movie event beginning April 10, 2011 at 9 pm ET/PT.

“We are thrilled to announce that History Television will proudly premiere the four-part movie event on April 10, 2011 at 9pm ET/PT.  We look forward to bringing this outstanding historical drama featuring a star-studded cast to Canadian audiences,” said Barb Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media.

The anticipated four-part movie event, The Kennedys, tells the intimate story of the illustrious Kennedy family and brings to life this prolific piece of American history.

Featuring an outstanding cast, this revealing eight-hour drama spotlights one of America’s most legendary families as they have never been seen before.

The Kennedys begins on November 8, 1960 – Election Day – as the American people must choose between the charismatic Senator John F. Kennedy and his more experienced opponent, Vice President Richard M. Nixon.

Through flashbacks to the 1930’s and the 1940’s, The Kennedys explores the achievements, regrets, loyalties and betrayals that surrounded John, Bobby and Joe Sr., as well as the women who unconditionally supported them.

The Kennedys delves deep into the events that shaped the iconic family, from the tragic death of Joe Jr. and Jack’s first run for congress, to Bobby’s’ undying loyalty to Jack’s political career and the significant introduction of Jack and Jacqueline Bouvier.

Exposing triumphs and tragedies, The Kennedys concludes with the tragic assassinations of both Jack and Bobby, leaving behind a family – and a nation – in grief, left only with the dreams and spirit of Camelot.

Timed to coincide with what would have been Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday, HBO Canada presents an in-depth look at the life of the two-term U.S. President in the HBO original documentary Reagan.

Directed by Eugene Jarecki (Why We Fight, The Trials of Henry Kissinger), the feature-length biographical documentary premieres Monday, February 7 at 9 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) and Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada).

An official selection of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Reagan combines rare and archival images as well as interviews with family members, biographers and historians, including sons Ron Reagan Jr. and Michael Reagan; Pulitzer Prize-winning author and official biographer Edmund Morris; Peter Robinson, a Reagan speechwriter; former Secretaries of State George Shultz and James Baker; and TV journalist Dan Rather.

The 120-minute documentary delves into how Reagan’s impassioned anti-Communism views fuelled an unexpected but seismic political career, one whose reverberations shaped American life and ideology. It also explores the phenomenon of how a group of modern-day acolytes have comes to zealously embrace Reagan and his legacy, even as it is clear that Reagan may have been as much a pragmatist as he was a conservative.

Reagan will be simulcast on HBO Canada HD, and will be available on demand following its network premiere.

Academy Award® winner Tommy Lee Jones and Academy Award® nominee Samuel L. Jackson star in HBO Films’ The Sunset Limited, based on the play of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Cormac McCarthy.

The searing two-character drama premieres Saturday, February 12 at 9 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) and Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada).

In a story that mixes humour and pathos, The Sunset Limited explores the relationship between two strangers brought together by desperate circumstances. Set in a New York tenement apartment, the film focuses on two very different men – a deeply religious ex-con (Jackson) who thwarts the suicide attempt of an asocial college professor (Jones) who tried to throw himself in front of an oncoming subway train called The Sunset Limited.  As the one attempts to connect on a rational, spiritual and emotional level, the other remains steadfast in his hard-earned despair. Locked in a philosophical debate, both passionately defend their personal credos and try to convert the other.

Jones shot The Sunset Limited from the text of Cormack McCarthy’s play, following several days of rehearsal with Samuel L. Jackson and McCarthy himself, with the intention of honouring the beauty and elegance of the source material.

The Sunset Limited will be simulcast on HBO Canada HD, and will be available on demand following its network premiere.
