Launch schedule announced for OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network in Canada

Corus Entertainment announced today programming details for the highly anticipated Canadian launch of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

Debuting Tuesday, March 1, OWN will give Canadian viewers access to a stellar lineup of original series and specials that focus on entertaining, informing and inspiring viewers to live their best lives.

OWN’s launch schedule features an impressive lineup of original programming, including: Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes, Ask Oprah All-Stars with Suze Orman, Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz, Oprah Presents: Master Class, Enough Already! with Peter Walsh, The Gayle King Show, Cristina Ferrare’s Big Bowl Of Love, and In the Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman. In addition, the schedule will feature a strong lineup of Canadian programs such as Anna & Kristina’s Grocery Bag, Fearless in the Kitchen and Healthy Gourmet, which will be further complemented by a slate of original Canadian content that will be developed for the service.

In Anna & Kristina’s Grocery Bag, the test-driving twosome narrow their focus to the kitchen and put cookbooks to the test – from the grocery store to the dinner plate. In each episode, Anna and Kristina try out and review recipes, ingredients, appliances and food prep techniques to see if the average cook can re-create the beautifully photographed meals. At the end of the show, a guest chef or food expert will give a final evaluation of the meal and decide if the cookbook delivers the goods.

The program takes real-life situations, some of them straight from the headlines, and records the everyday dilemmas that test character and values. Will people be compelled to act or just mind their own business? The OWN Edition will feature all-new man on the street segments with series host ABC News correspondent John Quiñones who reports on peoples’ split-second, and often surprising, decision-making process. The series is executive produced by David Sloan.


On March 1, 2011, OWN will launch in over six million Canadian homes on what is currently VIVA.
