Calgary families selected to go head to head in Canada’s toughest DIY challenge

The two families that will compete on the second season of My RONA Home in the challenge of a lifetime – to design, build and win their very own home were revealed last week on Breakfast Television in Calgary and Edmonton.

The Ausmus and Maley families will race against-the-clock in construction, design and decorating challenges when My RONA Home returns for a second season Spring 2011 on Citytv.

The search launched on September 25 and Calgary based Ausmus and Maley families were selected from hundreds of applicants from across Canada.

Robyn and Jordan Ausmus recently returned to Calgary from California where Jordan studied to be a chiropractor. Student debt has left them living with grandma and they long to move into a house of their own with their two young children where they can entertain family and friends.

Raegan and Jesse Maley have their hands full with four children under the age of eight. Originally from Ontario, the Maleys moved to Calgary to pursue opportunities out west. Discouraged by the hurdle of down payments, the couple has struggled to get their first foot on the property ladder.

Elissa Lansdell returns as host for the second season of My RONA Home, where these two families will be teamed up with a designer and a contractor to tackle everything from dry walling to decorating, moving room by room and turning a house into a home. The pressure intensifies with each fresh DIY challenge as Elissa’s couples have no more than 30 hours to get the job done. Their workmanship is appraised every time by eagle-eyed professional judges.

Ultimately Canadian viewers will have the final say on which couple will win their dream home, voting online or by phone. The nation’s verdict is revealed at the end of the 10-week season, determining which family wins the keys to the front door – plus the entire contents of furniture, appliances and electronics. The other couple will be given an opportunity to buy their home… and a spectacular consolation prize will be waiting for them, too!

My RONA Home is produced by Montreal production company Zone 3.
