Sparrow Media Company Inc., in association with CTV and The Comedy Network announce that production is underway on Season 2 of Brent Butt’s hit comedy series Hiccups.

This season, Millie goes to Hollywood to firm up a Grumpaloo movie deal, Stan (Brent Butt) and Anna’s (Paula Rivera) life gets interrupted when Millie (Nancy Robertson) moves in, and Millie obsesses about the sound of her voice when a talking Missy Grumpaloo doll is introduced.

On the heels of securing international distribution rights with Electus Distribution for Season 1, the 13-episode half-hour series will shoot its second season in Vancouver until December, 2010.

Ben Silverman, the award-winning producer and CEO of Electus, has secured the international distribution rights for the first season in a sub-distribution deal with Thunderbird Films through Electus Distribution.

Season 1 of Hiccups premiered to 1.9 million viewers on March 1, making it the most-watched premiere of any scripted Canadian series and the new #1 comedy program (Canadian or American) of the year.

Viewers can catch encore broadcasts of Season 1 on The Comedy Network Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT and on demand at

Hiccups stars Nancy Robertson (Corner Gas, Robson Arms) as Millie Upton, a successful children’s author who is socially unpredictable, except for being predictably inappropriate. She is prone to sudden outbursts of laughter, sadness and rage. All traits that her life coach Stan (Brent Butt) tries to subdue, her publisher Joyce (Laura Soltis, The Guard) fails to keep under wraps and her slick but useless agent Taylor (David Ingram, Queer As Folk) is too self-centred to notice. Meanwhile, Stan finds life-support in his wide-eyed and slightly bewildered wife, Anna (Paula Rivera, Flashpoint), who does her best to support his impractical dream of becoming a life coach. All observed by the sardonic eye of Joyce’s spoiled receptionist, Crystal (Emily Perkins, Gingersnaps).

Created, written and executive produced by Brent Butt (Corner Gas), Hiccups is also executive produced by Laura Lightbown (DaVinci’s Inquest, Intelligence) and David Storey (Corner Gas). Producers are Nancy Robertson (Corner Gas) and Arvi Liimatainen (Da Vinci’s Inquest, Intelligence) and supervising producer is Andrew Carr (Corner Gas).

The 16 BATTLE OF THE BLADES competitors are ready to rock the rink for the very first live performance show this Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBC Television. Joining the judging panel this week is one of the top goal scorers of all time, NHL all-star Brett Hull.

Brett Hull’s comments will bring added variety when combined with the remarks of permanent judges Sandra Bezic and Jeremy Roenick. All three will preside together on the judging panel and set the tone for the season as the show’s eight pairs compete for the very first time in the hopes of winning a $100,000 donation for their charity of choice. This week’s theme is Rock.

Destined for greatness, Brett Hull played his very first NHL game in 1986 with the Calgary Flames during the Stanley Cup finals and then went on to play for the St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes. During his impressive career he scored 741 goals, placing him third overall in the NHL. He has won two Stanley Cups: one for the Dallas Stars in 1999 where he scored the winning goal; and one with the Red Wings in 2002. Hull was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009 and is currently the Executive Vice President of the Dallas Stars.

Viewers can learn more about the competitors at, the official online portal for the BATTLE OF THE BLADES. In addition to videos, blogs and behind-the-scene photos, the site offers viewers the opportunity to become fans of their favourite pair and track each participant’s activity as they strive to be the final pair remaining at the end of the series.

HBO Canada presents The Promise: The Making of “Darkness on the Edge of Town”, an in-the-studio look at the recording of Bruce Springsteen’s iconic album, Darkness on the Edge of Town, the follow up to the breakthrough success of Born to Run.

The documentary premieres Thursday, October 7 at 9 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) and Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada).

Premiering recently at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival®, Grammy- and Emmy® -winning filmmaker Thom Zimny combines never-before-seen footage shot from 1976-1978 with recent interviews of Bruce Springsteen, members of the E Street Band, and the producers who helped shape the classic 1978 album. The film offers insight into the critically acclaimed album and the creative process, both for hard-core Springsteen fans and newcomers  to his music.

The documentary reveals how Springsteen viewed his success as both a blessing and a potential curse. As Springsteen looks back 30 years later, he remembers worrying that his sudden fame, and the pressure to make another chart-topping LP filled with hit singles, might cause him to lose touch with the people and places that brought him his unique musical sound and inspirations.

The never-before-seen studio footage shows Springsteen at the peak of his powers, and includes several exuberant, impromptu collaborations between Springsteen and Van Zandt, jamming on tunes and melody fragments that never ended up making the record. With Darkness on the Edge of Town Springsteen realized his goal of a thematically consistent sound – and took a giant, uncompromising step to becoming an authentic musical artist who remains true to himself and his craft. The film includes the album’s popular songs “Prove It All Night” and “Badlands.”
