/A\ goes rogue with the addition of suspenseful new series NIKITA, joining its can’t-miss Thursday night line-up airing at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning September 9 on /A\ (visit to confirm local broadcast times).

This sexy drama, currently filming in Toronto, stars international action-film star Maggie Q (Mission Impossible III) in the title role as a spy/assassin for a top secret U.S. government agency who rebels against the very system that created her.

NIKITA joins /A\’s new female-friendly Thursday night fall line-up, which begins with THE VAMPIRE DIARIES at 8 p.m. ET followed by PRIVATE PRACTICE at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes of NIKITA are available on demand following their television broadcast on the CTV Video Player at NIKITA also premieres Sunday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET on SPACE.

“With the adrenaline-pumping NIKITA paired with hits THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and PRIVATE PRACTICE, Thursday nights on /A\ is a new destination for viewers this Fall,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “The gorgeous and talented Maggie Q leads an excellent ensemble cast, all complimented by gripping, action-packed plotlines.”

In NIKITA, Division is an ultra-secret government agency whose operatives are recruited young with severed ties to family, friends and society. Trained to be invisible assassins, no one ever leaves Division – except the charming and deadly NIKITA, who has managed to escape, making it her mission to undermine the now-corrupt organization. A force to be reckoned with, the rogue Nikita taunts Division, staying on their radar, but always one step ahead. Yet as determined as Nikita is to bring down her former agency, there are those just as determined to stop her, including Division’s newest recruit Alex (Lindsy Fonseca, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES), a beautiful young woman who seems destined to replace NIKITA as their next top operative.

NIKITA is the latest adaptation of the French film entitled La Femme Nikita which was also made into a Canadian series in the late 90s. At a TCA panel earlier this month, when asked why the producers were attracted to NIKITA, executive producer Craig Silverstein explained, “I loved the original iterations. My only question was whether it could be done fresh, and if it could be done in a way where you didn’t know how this story would end.” He added that it was also a fresh take on the concept, given that the narrative follows NIKITA after she’s left the agency, while still doing justice to the original story (from TV Squad).

In the series premiere (Thursday, September 9 at 9 p.m. ET on /A\), when NIKITA was a deeply troubled teenager, she was rescued from death row by Division, who trained her as a spy and assassin. Nikita was eventually betrayed by the only people she thought she could trust. Now, after three years in hiding, Nikita is seeking retribution and making it clear to her former boss, Percy and her former friends Michael and Birkhoff that she will stop at nothing to expose and destroy their covert operation.

International action-film star and martial arts expert Maggie Q, from Hawaii, burst onto the Hong Kong movie scene after being discovered as a model, eventually becoming a full-fledged superstar in Asia. She has appeared in Rush Hour 2, Live Free or Die Hard and was part of the supporting cast in Mission: Impossible III. “I like the idea of empowered female characters. Maggie nails that voicing,” said executive producer McG.

NIKITA also stars Shane West (ER) as Michael; Aaron Stanford (TRAVELER) as Birkhoff; Melinda Clarke (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES) as Amanda; and Xander Berkeley (24) as Percy.

Always revealing, STAR PORTRAITS not only brings viewers closer to some of Canada’s most famous faces, but goes behind the fascinating process of creating a timeless portrait. Each episode begins by bringing together one famous Canadian and three accomplished portrait artists for a sitting. The subject’s identity is a secret to the artists, with the only clue being the location – specially chosen by the subjects themselves. The artists are then given three hours to study, sketch and photograph the celebrity guest, before they set off to their respective studios for two weeks to complete their work.

In the middle of this two-week creative process, host Louise Pitre visits each artist’s studio to find out how their portrait is coming along. Every episode concludes two weeks after the sitting with the exciting unveiling of three completely different portraits, from which the celebrity gets to choose their favourite to keep. The other two are auctioned, with the proceeds donated to a charity of their choice. Auction details to be announced shortly.

This season features a total of 39 new established Canadian artists including Pauline Bradshaw, Todd Julie and Shaun Downey – whose painting “Blue Coco” was recently selected for exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London, England.

Last season’s celebrity guests included Alex Trebek, Enrico Colantoni (FLASHPOINT), Ashley MacIsaac, Elvis Stojko, Measha Brueggergosman, Romeo Dallaire, and others.
