It’s official. DEGRASSI ’s new format is a hit with audiences!

During its first week of its new telenovela format, DEGRASSI won its timeslot (9 – 9:30 p.m. ET) Monday to Thursday with MuchMusic’s key demo of P12 – 34 amongst all Canadian and US Speciality Networks.

Within its first week, DEGRASSI also became the station’s second most-watched series this broadcast year to date with P12 – 34 audiences and in overall viewership. And more than one million viewers tuned in to watch the first week of DEGRASSI on its new, exclusive home, MuchMusic.

New episodes air Monday through Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET. This new daily format continues all summer long on MuchMusic. Viewers can get caught up on episodes by going to muchmusic.com.

New shore, same crazy. The guidos and guidettes of JERSEY SHORE are back for another season of GTL (gym, tanning, laundry) and fist-pumping like champs on the dance floor.

Season 2 sees the party move south to Miami Beach, where the crew spent the winter rekindling old friendships and old flames. Once the boardwalk heats up again, the series returns to the Jersey Shore to complete the season.

The haters will be hatin’, the Ron Ron Juice will be flowin’ and the Snooki will be Snookin’ on Season 2 of JERSEY SHORE, airing Thursdays on MTV at 10 p.m. ET/PT, beginning July 29.

In the season premiere, the Situation, Pauly D, Snooki and J-Woww road trip down the east coast, while the rest of the gang hop on planes to fly south for the winter. Once there, they are shocked by the surprise arrival of former housemate Angelina, and the drama picks up right where it left off in Jersey. Ron and Sam are newly single – or are they?

She says she still has feelings for him and wants to get back together. But when tensions boil over, she is left at home alone and broken-hearted while he gets crazy at the club.

When a million mourners flocked to Michael Jackson’s memorial service in July 2009, the world reflected on all the eccentricities of the late creative genius.

He lived his life in the middle of the biggest media circus on Earth, but early on Michael Jackson found solace away from it all with an unlikely and trusted companion – a chimpanzee named Bubbles.

Now, for the first time, Animal Planet presents viewers with the remarkably touching tale of the world’s greatest pop icon and his much-loved chimpanzee when MICHAEL JACKSON & BUBBLES: THE UNTOLD STORY premieres Sunday, August 29 at 9 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT.

Airing on what would have been the King of Pop’s 52nd birthday, this special features rarely-seen footage of Jackson and Bubbles and talks to those who witnessed the relationship first hand (including Jackson’s Sister Latoya).

The revealing one-hour documentary also explores the complex psychology behind Jackson’s devotion to his chimp and other animals and takes a look at where Bubbles is now – more than 20 years later.

Bubbles the chimp was once the world’s most famous pet and for six years the primate and his owner – singing sensation Michael Jackson – were inseparable. Bubbles joined Jackson on his 1987 “Bad” tour of Japan and on other trips all around the world. Their lives seemed to mirror each other: Jackson the man who never had a childhood and Bubbles, the chimp who grew up raised as a human. So, what became of the world’s most famous chimp? This fascinating documentary highlights the path Bubbles’ life took once he hit adolescence – at which time Jackson could no longer care for him – to where he is today.

Team building at work strikes a new chord…Canwest Broadcasting announced today it will develop and broadcast an all-new original production, Canada Sings! (working title).

The reality series will target budding talents within workplaces nationwide, encouraging glee clubs to come together and perform in competition.

Premiering on Global in early 2011, Canada Sings! is a one-hour original series that will challenge ordinary Canadians to form extraordinary glee clubs with their co-workers and compete in a head-to-head battle against another workplace team. From firemen to nurses, chefs to CEOs – gleeful Canadians are everywhere and Canada Sings! is on the hunt.

“Canada Sings! will uncover the talent that is hiding in the cubicle next to you. It will expose the big voice inside the colleague you never thought could carry a tune,” said Christine Shipton, SVP, Drama and Factual Content, Canwest Broadcasting. “The series will take everyday people out of their comfort zones and onto the stage for a high-voltage performance audiences won’t soon forget.”

Each week Canada Sings! will travel to two Canadian workplaces to scout out talent for a glee club that will audition, rehearse and ultimately perform in front of a live studio audience – all within a few days. With the help of world class choreographers and vocal coaches, each group will prepare for the musical performance of their lives and battle each other in a high-stakes glee-off. A panel of celebrity judges will award the winning glee club with a donation to the charity of their choice.

Canada Sings! will be produced expressly for Canwest Broadcasting by Insight Productions.

FLASHPOINT TRAINING DAY, an interactive simulation that gives FLASHPOINT fans the chance to become virtual members of the Strategic Response Unit (SRU), was launched today at CTV.ca.

Now, viewers can gear up for the new season beginning August 6 on CTV with the ultimate virtual SRU training experience.

In an ambitious online extension of the television show, viewers can adopt the role of a rookie recruit and explore SRU tactical and strategic training modules, including the recruitment test, real-time negotiations with a hostage taker, and training in weapons, sniping, tactics, and profiling.

FLASHPOINT TRAINING DAY is shot in HD using live action video scenarios featuring the cast of the hit series. In collaboration with real police force advisors who also appear in the game, players are introduced to the actual weapons and equipment used by police.

When players launch the game, the site unfolds in full motion video, revealing the different sections of the SRU HQ. Players can explore the environment from the Communications Desk, the Gym and Training Facilities to Office Records in the Board Room and Weapons Training in the Gun Cage.

After players register, they are run through a series of training exercises to prepare them for the final test missions.  At each successful phase, players can post their progress to Facebook.

To begin, rookies take the SRU Recruitment Test.  Designed to measure the recruit’s ability in spatial perception, memory and multitasking, the Recruitment Test is based on real police aptitude tests challenging players to recall, among other things, key details from a 911 emergency call and facial characteristics from a suspect’s mug shot.

In Sniper Training, rookies learn that a sniper principally acts as the eyes of the SRU team. A real police instructor explains the sniper’s role. The rookie then performs a series of observational tasks while also maintaining accuracy in shooting targets and deciding when to make the shot and when to hold fire.

Tactical Training teaches new officers how to organize an SRU tactical team, providing the team with the equipment that they will need to safely deal with a dangerous situation, while making sure that team members are correctly positioned.

When rookies successfully finish training, they are challenged with two test missions. In the Sniping and Tactical Test Mission, recruits take on the role of a sniper in which they need to choose the best observation position for the mission and keep in constant communication with the team. In the next mission, players have to negotiate directly with a hostage taker. The Negotiation and Profiling Mission employs voice recognition techniques permitting the player to negotiate directly with a hostage taker over a telephone.

The preliminary casting phase has begun for a new reality TV show centring on the world of blogging.

Producers for the series entitled ‘Project Mom Casting’ are seeking out female bloggers for the show which is still in the early stages.

Producer Leane Vanderman believes that all the right ingredients are already there in the blogging community for a good reality show – tension, drama, feel good stories, conflict and resolution, big personalities and humour.

Of course the show will not be simply a bunch of bloggers sitting around a computer screen. Vanderman and co. plan on utilising an original reality format which doesn’t require the participants to even be in the same city.

The format will depend on the characters and storylines they receive during the open casting call.

Vanderman describes the open casting call as a fishing expedition.

“This is step one of the journey. It’s a long road but a huge step.

“I am trying to return with footage and with interviews and stories that give a glimpse of the [blogging] community.”

She says the aim of the process is finding the right people and crafting a storyline around them in order to engage women outside of the blogging world.

“This isn’t just for mummy bloggers to get a peek into the greatness of their community. This has to be broad enough and interesting enough that mums without blogs will watch.”
