New York Police have not ruled out the possibility of the failed Times Square car bomb being linked to the controversial Prophet Muhammad episode of South Park.

Although there have been no connections established as yet, the NYPD are investigating whether the bomb that failed to detonate in an SUV parked in Times Square near the Viacom building (who owns MTV) was linked to the Islamic extremist group based in Queens.

The episode in question, which portrayed the Prophet Muhammad disguised in fluffy bear suit, was attacked after it aired in the US with a threat posted on the website which warned creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

The threat warned the pair that what they were doing “is stupid and they will probably end up like Theo van Gogh for airing this show.”

“This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.”

In mentioning Theo van Gogh, the Dutch filmmaker who was murdered following a documentary he made exploring violence towards Muslim women, the threat on their lives is apparent.

The website has denied any part in the bomb scare.
