Local news leads CTV ratings juggernaut in Ottawa-Gatineau!

The BBM Canada Spring 2010 ratings were released today. CTV NEWS AT SIX with Carol Anne Meehan and Graham Richardson is the most-watched television program in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec among adults 18+.

CTV NEWS AT SIX enjoyed an audience increase of 25% over the previous Spring. Head to head against CBC News at Six, CTV’s 34.4% share dwarfs CBC’s 8.0% share. From 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. the audience for CTV’S DR. OZ more than doubles the size of the CBC Newscast at that same time.

On March 29, 2010 Richardson officially replaced Max Keeping, who stepped down from the anchor chair after 37 years, joining Meehan on CTV’s supper newscast.

Keeping’s last newscast on March 26, 2010 proved to be an important television moment for viewers throughout Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. Four out of every 10 viewers tuned-in to CTV during that day’s 6 p.m. news, with a peak audience of 158,000 and a 41.4 share.

All four of CTV’s local news franchises are number one in their respective timeslots including CTV NEWS AT SIX Monday through Friday, CTV NEWS AT SIX WEEKENDS, CTV NEWS AT NOON and CTV NEWS AT 11:30.

CTV Ottawa is home to 14 of the Top 20 shows in the market including CTV NEWS AT SIX (#1), CTV WEEKEND NEWS with Kimothy Walker (#3) and REGIONAL CONTACT with Kathie Donovan and Joel Haslam (#4). The Top 10 is rounded out with prime time leaders such as Grey’s Anatomy (#5), The Amazing Race (#6), Undercover Boss (#7) and CSI (#10).

CTV Ottawa remains the only television station in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec with over 1,000,000 viewers weekly.

Louis Douville, CTV Ottawa Vice-President and General Manager, noted that these ratings results are especially pleasing following a Spring filled with change and challenge. “We lost our entire building due to a fire this past February,” said Douville. “But we never missed a newscast. And we even had our Ottawa version of an Olympic moment, with Max Keeping passing the local news torch to Graham Richardson.”
