Canadian networks spend up large at LA upfronts

Canadian networks spent up large at the recent network upfronts in Los Angeles, bringing back a swag of new shows for the upcoming season.

Global led the buying with major reboot series Hawaii Five-0 picked up from CBS and J.J. Abrams new series Undercovers bought from Warners.

The network also picked up Fox’s Texas oil drama Lonestar, Ride-Along and Raising Hope.

Meanwhile Citytv scored NBC’s The Event, which features Jason Ritter and Blair Underwood.

CTV purchased Tom Selleck vehicle Blue Bloods as well as The Defenders, whose cast includes Jerry O’Connell and Jim Belushi.

The network also gained Law & Order: Los Angeles to replace the now cancelled Law & Order.

A major buy for CTV was the new William Shatner sitcom $#*! My Dad Says, which is inspired by a real-life Twitter page. Also in the comedy genre, are Mike and Molly and Matthew Perry starrer Mr. Sunshine.

The networks will all announce their line-ups for the new season at the Canadian upfronts next week.
