The 40 Year Secret, airing Monday, Jan. 25, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, on THE PASSIONATE EYE on CBC News Network, tells the dramatic tale of a high school romance rekindled after 40 years and the couple’s search for the love child that they were forced to give up.

In the 1960s ‘free love’ had a price. Society still considered pregnant unwed teenaged girls to be “tainted”, a scandal to be hidden away. Many young women were pressured into giving up their babies for adoption and were then told to pretend nothing ever happened.

Linda Dawe and Ray Cave were forced apart by their parents and their lost child became their forty-year secret. In the documentary, the young lovers reunite at their high school reunion, after forty years apart. The 40 Year Secret is their powerful journey from scandal to redemption.

Narrated by acclaimed Canadian actress and director Sarah Polley, The 40 Year Secret is written and directed by Mary Anne Alton, and produced by Mary Anne Alton and Deborah Parks for Dundas Productions Inc. in association with CBC News Network. Toronto filmmaker Mary Anne Alton and the reunited couple, Linda Dawe and Ray Cave, are available for interviews.

Each year, five per cent of the thousands of Latin Americans who try to illegally migrate into the U.S. are children travelling alone. Which Way Home follows several of them as they travel north through Mexico on a freight train called “The Beast”.

Viewers hear from some of the kids making the risky trip, some as young as nine years old.
Fito is a 13-year-old Honduran, seeking work in the U.S. and hopes to be adopted. His mother abandoned him when he was very young and he lived with his impoverished grandmother who makes cigars for a living. Jose is a nine-year-old Salvadoran who lived with his aunt and has not seen his mother in three years since she left to work in the States. Hoping to reunite with her, he travels through Mexico on a bus with a smuggler. When Mexican immigration officials boarded the bus, the smuggler abandoned Jose, who was taken to a detention centre.
An official selection at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival, Which Way Home tackles the ongoing debate on immigration reform in the United States through the eyes of these children.

Which Way Home is directed and produced by Rebecca Cammisa.

It’s London, 1851. The city is in the throes of the industrial revolution. But amongst the dirty red bricks and smoke stacks are four young, thrill-seeking artists – steadfast William Holman Hunt, naive John Millais, mischievous Dante Gabriel Rossetti and budding journalist Fred Walters – otherwise known as the Brotherhood. Their quest for artistic immortality takes them into some of the lewdest, darkest and funniest corners of the city. Joining them is sassy, sexy model Lizzie Siddal. But is she risking it all with this dangerous bunch? With a glossy look, and a driving contemporary soundtrack, Desperate Romantics is a character-driven romp through the alleyways, studios, brothels and chop-houses of 19th century London.
