The wait is over! Season 9 of AMERICAN IDOL kicks off with a two-night premiere this Tuesday, January 12 at 8 p.m. ET and Wednesday, January 13 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca for local listings). Here is the first of the Top 5 reasons why AMERICAN IDOL can’t be missed this season:

Canadian Artists Invade Judging Panel at AMERICAN IDOL Auditions

Shania Twain sat next to Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi when AMERICAN IDOL auditions stopped in Chicago. In her blog Twain said, “I had a blast and was touched by the warm welcome that Simon, Kara, Randy and Ryan extended to me.  I can’t wait for you to see it.” The episode featuring Shania Twain airs on January 19 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.

Avril Lavigne will appear during the last two days of auditions in Los Angeles which airs January 27 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.

The season premiere of The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love took flight as 2.7 million Canadians tuned in to watch handsome commercial pilot, Jake Pavelka, meet 25 bachelorettes; including two Canadians on Citytv. Monday night’s launch is up 91% over the season premiere of The Bachelor one year ago.

Landing the #1 spot in Toronto and Calgary across key female demographics F18-34 (7.4 Rating/4.3 Rating), F18-49 (7.6/3.9) and F25-54 (7.1/4.1), The Bachelor also performed well in Vancouver landing the # 3 spot for the night across the same key female demos.

Citytv.com doubled its daily traffic during the broadcast period from 8pm -11pm ET as fans chatted live on The Bachelor Live Blog and joined the online pool to predict who would be Jake’s co-pilot in the end. During the broadcast, Suzanne Ellis, The Single File blogger, hosts a live blog on Citytv.com allowing Bachelor fans to chat in real time about the show. The live chat also doubled its audience over its debut on the premiere of last season’s The Bachelorette.

When seventeen year-old Andrea McWilliams is found strangled and beaten to death in an alley, her ex-boyfriend leads the cops to a website that McWilliams used to meet up with random men. Detective Benson (Mariska Hargitay) decides to create a user account for the site and finds womanizer Peter Butler (guest star Brian Geraghty, We Are Marshall), the man who met up with McWilliams.

Alicia gleans a bit more info into Peter’s fall from grace when she represents Glenn Child’s wife in their divorce. Meanwhile, Will gets cozy with his opposing counsel during a wrongful death suit against an outspoken TV commentator.

Run by three generations of the Harrison family –grandfather Richard, son Rick and grandson Corey –Pawn Stars is a compelling and hilarious look at the pawn industry and the clashing and camaraderie that takes place along the way. The three men use their sharp eyes and skills to assess the value of items from ordinary to truly outstanding, including a 16th-century samurai sword, a Super Bowl ring, a Picasso painting and a 17th-century stay of execution.

In the film Air Force One, the President of the United States (Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) is on a journey home after making a speech in Moscow. But on the journey, Russian hijackers take over the plane, disguising themselves as newspaper reporters. The hijackers want the President to ring Moscow and release General Redek (Jürgen Prochnow, 24), but they think that the President has escaped in the pod. However, the President is really still on board Air Force One attempting to regain control of the plane and to rescue his wife and daughter.

In Blades of Glory, a rivalry between the world’s best mens figure skaters – sex addicted improvisational Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell, Stepbrothers) and germaphobic, precise Jimmy MacElroy (John Heder, Napoleon Dynamite) – turns into a fight on the awards podium resulting in the two men being stripped of their medals and banned from the sporting event for life. Three years later, their desire for a gold medal and a loophole in the rules leads Michaels and MacElroy to compete together in pairs skating as the first male-male pairs team. To win they must overcome their mutual dislike, use the limited time they have to prepare wisely and conquer their coach’s (Craig T. Nelson, COACH) secret history. The only thing left in their way is a series of dirty tricks set up by their opponents, Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg (Will Arnett and Amy Poehler, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE), a pair of siblings who are eager to do anything to emerge victorious.
