TLC Decides to Drop Jon Gosselin from "Jon & Kate Plus 8"

Viewers of Jon & Kate Plus 8, whether loyal or otherwise, have been holding their breath waiting for the big announcement that the show was cancelled. Instead, it seems the show has simply decided to cancel their contract with one of the reality star parents – yes, TLC is saying goodbye to Jon Gosselin! This announcement follows last night’s “new” episode which took previously unused footage of Kate’s time with the children on Baldhead Island earlier this summer, which was filmed before the couple’s big separation announcement. It was clear to viewers who tuned in last night, that new footage had not been filmed, despite TLC delivering a “new” episode according to schedule.

Today it’s all coming together, since clearly something else has been going on behind the scenes, and that’s the decision to dump the reality show dad who has recently created bad publicity for the TV show. On November 2nd, TLC will be relaunching the series which will be newly titled “Kate Plus 8″…not quite as catchy, but we’ll take it. According to the network, Jon Gosselin will appear on the show on occasion, but the focus will be on Kate’s journey as a single mother, which they believe will be more relatable to viewers. “Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family. The family has evolved and we are attempting to evolve with it; we feel that Kate’s journey really resonates with our viewers. Additionally the network is in development on a Kate project for 2010” says Eileen O’Neill, President and GM, TLC.
