Rogers Media Television Garners 29 Gemini Nominations for Citytv and OLN Properties

Rogers Media Television is pleased to congratulate and celebrate the Gemini Award nominated Canadian programming broadcast on Citytv and OLN for 2008-2009.

Citytv Programming:

The smart and edgy half-hour comedy series Less Than Kind received 9 Gemini nominations including nods for Best Comedy Program or Series, four nods for Best Direction in a Comedy Program or Series, Best Writing in a Comedy or Variety Program or Series, two nominations for Best Individual Performance in a Comedy Program or series and Best Achievement in Casting. A sharp and humorous look at the collisions and twists that happen between the hugs and kisses in a “loving” family, Season 2 of Less Than Kind is set to premiere early 2010 on Citytv.

Citytv’s Murdoch Mysteries garnered six nominations including Best Writing in a Dramatic Series, Best Photography in a Dramatic Program or Series, Best Achievement in Make-up, Best Original Music Score for a Program or Series, Best Achievement in Main Title Design, Best Performance by an Actor Featured in a Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series. Set in 1895 Toronto, Murdoch Mysteries explores the intriguing world of William Murdoch, a handsome young detective using radical forensic techniques, like fingerprinting and trace evidence, to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders. Season 3 of Murdoch Mysteries is set to premiere early 2010.

The epic adventure series Crusoe was recognized with nominations for Best Photography in a Dramatic Program or Series and Best Original Music Score for a Program or Series.

CityNews’ resident Sports Specialist Kathryn Humphreys received her first Gemini nomination in the Best Host or Interviewer in a Sports Program or Sportscast category.

OLN Programming:

The OLN original series Departures received 6 Gemini nominations including Best Direction in a Lifestyle/Practical Information Program or Series, Best Host in a Lifestyle/Practical Information or Performing Arts Program or Series, Best Photography in an Information Program or Series and three nominations for Best Picture Editing in an Information Programming or Series. Departures chronicles the travel adventures, unforgettable friendships, personal successes and sometimes crushing disappointments of Ontario natives Scott Wilson, Justin Lukach and Andre Dupuis. Season 3 of Departures is set to premiere January 2010 on OLN.

Survivorman starring Canada’s favourite adventurer Les Stroud earned 3 Gemini nominations including Best Documentary Series, Best Direction in a Documentary Series and Best Host or Interviewer in a General/Human Interest or Talk Program or Series.

Angry Planet, which follows daring storm chaser George Kourounis received a nomination for Best Host or Interviewer in a General/Human Interest or Talk Program or Series.

The original series Which Way To… takes viewers to exotic travel locations around the world and provides a unique behind-the-scenes perspective you won’t find in any tourist guide! Which Way To… received a Gemini Nomination for Best Lifestyle/Practical Information Series.
