Live! With Regis and Kelly Premiere Viewer Ratings

CTV weathercaster Tamara Taggart took a bite out of the Big Apple Friday with nearly half a million viewers along for the ride. As guest host on CTV’s LIVE! WITH REGIS AND KELLY, Taggart’s LIVE! debut saw audiences increase 56% above average with 474,000 viewers. The Vancouver weathercaster was the only Canadian top 10 finalist in the “From Local to LIVE Co-Host for a Day” search, filling in for series regular Kelly Rippa.

On Friday’s show, Taggart and Regis Philbin interviewed actress Renee Zellweger about her recent film My One and Only, and journalist/author Geraldo Rivera about his new book The Great Progression: How Hispanics Will Lead America to a New Era of Prosperity. As well, Regis and Tamara announced some of the nominees from the 2009 Relly Awards and the winner of the Ultimate Hometown Grill Off. Several Canadian Taggart fans were in the LIVE! studio audience to cheer her on.

During the show, Philbin complimented Tamara’s poise under pressure. “You know, we have one of the most-jammed shows we have ever had in the history of this show. That’s why I am glad you’re so experienced, because it’s going to take all of our talents to get through this today.” By the end of the broadcast, Philbin was asking “Hasn’t this girl been terrific?”

Meanwhile, Taggart completed more than two dozen interviews with media outlets across the country as the result of her co-hosting gig. Viewers in Canada followed her Big Apple adventure at ctvbc.ctv.ca/tamara, increasing traffic to the site by 82%, and at twitter.com/tamarataggart which saw a 38% jump in traffic. Taggart kept followers updated on everything from flight delays in Toronto to presenting an Olympic mascot to Regis to messages of congratulations from Premier of British Columbia Gordon Campbell.
