After bumping into a young homeless man (Brendan Fletcher), Toby (Craig Olejnik) is plagued by visions of a missing girl.

It is with great sadness that we bid a final farewell to Beth Barrington and Katherine Wellington (06/11), who were the latest to meet their brutal demise on Harper’s Island.

Beth was vivacious with a bright future ahead of her.  It never crossed her mind to consider the dangers of wandering around The Candlewick Inn alone, and it proved to be the worst mistake she ever made.

Most considered Mrs. Wellington a ‘Trophy Wife’ who could not be trusted, and it came as no surprise when her dark secrets began to surface.  Sadly, in this case, being deceitful cost Katherine her life.

Two lives full of promise, two journeys cut short.

Digital television channel The Pet Network announces a new fall programming schedule that punctuates the universal appeal and popularity of wholesome television entertainment, starring pets and animals.

Head of Programming Rosemary Fusca believes that The Pet Network possesses a unique commonality, “Pets are universal, and they cross every demographic gender and age line.  Whether you bring puppies into a kindergarten class or a nursing home, you’ll see faces light up across the room.  In fact, the majority of Canadian households own pets; according to BBM, 68% of 25-54 year olds have one.  That doesn’t even take into account the number of people that don’t own pets, but are still fascinated by animals.”

Documentaries, movies, reality shows, Canadian and foreign dramas and cartoons fill The Pet Network’s schedule, an eclectic offering that is unique within itself.  The channel’s flagship show Pet Central returns with host Candice Batista traversing the landscape of animal – human coexistence in search of quirky characters, extraordinary stories, useful gadgets and pertinent lifestyle information.  Canine expert Dr. Stanley Coren also contributes a segment, explaining dog behaviour and ways to tweak it.

Natural Companions teaches viewers about treating their animal companions on a physical level, with holistic and naturopathic preventative care and treatment. Australia’s most famous veterinarian, Dr. Harry Cooper, continues his charming trek across the Land Down Under on Harry’s Practice.  The BBC’s smash hit reality series Vets in Practice takes a more intense approach to treating animals, combining medical crisis with the emotional toll it takes upon the doctors.

New shows include Mickey – Everyone’s Best Friend featuring Mickey the collie, his human friend Megan, and a talking ferret and goat.  Childlike Mickey learns lessons like “why leaves change colour”; it’s captivating educational fun for the pre-school set.  In fact, Mickey headlines an entire block of programming under the Family Fun Lineup moniker.  Other “all ages appeal” offerings include two unique and exclusive new series from award winning producer/director Tom McPhee: Rock & Roll Dogs takes a comedic “up close and personal look” at specific homeless shelter dogs along with their peculiar personality traits, and Jane Garrison’s Rescue Diaries documents dramatic animal rescues, while profiling the selfless, courageous people who perform them.

Pet Connection is a lifestyle series with acclaimed Ottawa veterinarian Bernie Pukay answering questions like “Why does my puppy bite?”  Its East Coast counterpart is Island Vets; cameras follow the inner workings of a PEI clinic, where cases shown are generally life and death.  Bondi Vet features a completely different take on treating animals.  Dr. Chris Brown is a hunky surfer-type, whose affluent clientele come to him for pet facelifts and Prozac for their parrots.

The Horse is a documentary series that showcases horses from 4000 BC farms to modern day racetracks.  Another season of Pet Docs also premieres with a new selection of compelling and informative exposés from award-winning documentarians around the world.

The new season begins Monday, September 21st.  The Pet Network is available by subscription through television providers.  The channel is owned and operated by Stornoway Communications.

Tara’s catwalk dreams came to an abrupt halt tonight on CTV’s CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. The 19-year-old from Chateauguay, Quebec is the latest model hopeful to be eliminated from the competition.

Last week’s episode was the most-watched yet, with 828,000 viewers 2+. Up 26% compared to the previous week’s episode, CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL was second in its timeslot only to Game 6 of The Stanley Cup Playoffs. The episode was the #1 program with women 18-34 nationally as well as in Toronto and Vancouver.*

Tonight, it was all about the girls learning how to let their personalities shine. Canadian supermodel Irina Lazareanu was on hand with CNTM judge Mike Ruiz to draw charisma out of the girls at the challenge. Mousey Heather from Halifax stepped up and was the most dynamic and engaging. At their photo shoot, each girl had their mouth taped shut with duct tape and had to express all of their emotion through their eyes. And, while Tara’s body is undeniably incredible, she didn’t deliver the same range in her face. After two weeks of holding back in her shoots, the judges cut her loose. “Maybe I was just scared to express myself too much,” she said.

In next week’s all-new episode, premiering Tuesday, June 23 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV, the girls get media trained and then put their new training to the test at Toronto Fashion Week. Episode 5 of CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL  finds the girls learning how to handle tough questions from two cheeky MTV personalities, Jessi Cruickshank and Dan Levy. Their media training is put to good use at Toronto Fashion Week and it becomes clear that two of the girls are neck and neck. And with another week, comes another photo shoot and another elimination. The six remaining finalists are put through the ringer and it’s up to host, Jay Manuel and the panel of judges – FASHIONTELEVISION’s Jeanne Beker, supermodel Yasmin Warsame, Montreal native and A-List photographer Mike Ruiz – to send home another aspiring supermodel.

Tune into ETALK tomorrow (Wednesday, June 17 at 7:30 pm ET) for the national broadcast exclusive with Tara after the judges sent her home.

Encore presentations of tonight’s episode air on Star! and FashionTelevisionChannel, Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET; on MTV, Thursday at 10 p.m. ET; and a special Sunday night catch-up broadcast airs on ‘A’ at 10 p.m. ET.  Episode 5 premieres Tuesday, June 23 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times).

The ARC is invaded by the military, and the team is besieged by a flock of ‘terror birds’.

With 17,500 employees, a 2006 earning of $7.5 billion and operations in 46 countries, Monsanto is the world leader in genetically modified organisms (GMOs), as well as one of the most controversial corporations in industrial history. Since its founding in 1901, the company has faced numerous trials due to the toxicity of its products, from polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), to devastating herbicides like Agent Orange, used during the Vietnam war, and bovine growth hormones, which are yet unauthorized in Canada and banned in Europe.

Now, Monsanto has reinvented itself as a “life sciences” company where, thanks to its genetically modified seeds, engineered among other things to withstand Monsanto’s Roundup, the world’s bestselling herbicide, the company claims it wants to solve world hunger while reducing environmental damage. Where does the truth lie?

Based on a three-year investigation in North and South America, Europe and Asia, The World According to Monsanto reveals how Monsanto’s “renewed image” portrayed through their advertising hides its real agenda for market dominance, with harm to global food security and environmental stability. The World According to Monsanto was directed by Marie-Monique Robin and produced by Yves Fortin, Yves Bisaillon and Christian Medawar.

Not to gloat, but did I call it, or did I call it? Since Jon & Kate Plus 8’s season 5 premier which brought in 9.8 million viewers due to the tabloid controversy, the curiosity of the media may not have died, but the show’s ratings are suffering due to the declining marital status of the now famous couple.

As this week’s episode brought yet another episode where the Gosselins were found leading separate lives even though it was their 10th anniversary at the time of filming, ratings for the TLC show have dropped another consecutive week to a mere 4 million. It’s clear that viewers aren’t about to get any answers about what’s going on with the couple’s marriage as they never appear together, which definitely makes it more likely that they have in fact already split and are now putting it on for TLC’s cameras. With the controversy remaining unaddressed on the show, and the couple’s characteristic, relatable banter which once made the show entertaining obviously lacking, viewers just aren’t interested anymore.

Jon & Kate Plus 8 has during previous seasons averaged 2.9 million viewers, and though TLC is obviously impressed having signed the show on for 40 more episodes, we know they’ll be coming back. But will people keep on watching?
