It’s an epic battle in which 250 million begin, but only one survives. Blown up to human size, THE GREAT SPERM RACE follows the 48-hour journey of sperm from ejaculation through to conception using helicopter-mounted cameras, world-renowned scientists, CGI and dramatic reconstruction. A Canada/UK co-production, THE GREAT SPERM RACE premieres on Discovery Channel on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21 at 8 p.m. ET/ 9 p.m. PT.

With the microscopic world of sperm and egg accurately scaled up by 34,000 times, the human-sized heroes negotiate some of the world’s most striking landscapes which stand in for a woman’s reproductive tract, from the vastness of the Canadian Rockies to the tight and crowded confinement of London’s high rises.

Directed by Julian Jones, who directed Discovery Channel Canada’s Emmy®-nominated HOW WILLIAM SHATNER CHANGED THE WORLD, THE GREAT SPERM RACE has already won a Best Cinematography award from the Canadian Society of Cinematographers.

Made in conjunction with the world’s leading reproductive scientists, THE GREAT SPERM RACE demonstrates the epic challenges a sperm must overcome as it competes to win nature’s giant lottery of luck: human conception.

College students pick up a hitchhiker who turns out to be a psychopath. Starring Sean Bean and Sophia Bush.

Narrated by David Suzuki, the three-part series Arctic Meltdown—beginning Saturday, June 20, at 7 p.m. (7:30 p.m. NT), on CBC Television—documents the drastic changes the Arctic has seen over the last few years. From new companies rushing to claim the Arctic’s plentiful resources to the effect climate change has had on animals as well as plant life, the documentary, directed by Kristina Von Hlatky, asks the big question: as the Arctic meltdown continues at an ever accelerating pace, who will protect it?

In Arctic Meltdown: A Changing World, airing Saturday, June 20, at 7 p.m. (7:30 p.m. NT), we see the changes that are upsetting the scientific predictions of the impact of climate change on the Arctic. Now, one sobering forecast is that the Arctic Ocean will be seasonally ice free by the summer of 2013. This possibility is what drives environmentalists to identify ways to minimize the changes affecting this snowy land. But for prospectors like Gordon McCreary, climate change brings new opportunities. He is part of the rush to claim the riches beneath the Arctic’s ice: deposits of metals, gold, diamonds, and oil and gas.

Episode one will showcase how Arctic nations are racing to claim control over the Arctic’s resources and shipping routes. Dr. Ruth Jackson, from the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Nova Scotia, leads the Canadian team racing to map the seabed to support Canada’s claim. Scientists too are now becoming victims of the Arctic’s icy politics. A Canadian-led, international team of researchers is thwarted on camera when their deal to hire a Russian nuclear icebreaker falls through.

Episode two, Arctic Meltdown: The Arctic Passages, airing Saturday, June 27 at 7 p.m. (7:30 p.m. NT), explores the Northwest Passage and how these dangerous waters are suddenly becoming accessible to businesses and shipping. Ports like Churchill, Manitoba and Murmansk, Russia expect to see business grow in years to come. Until recently, only a few ships braved travel through these ice-strewn waters. More and more ships cross these seas each year and with more traffic come higher risks—in particular, for the Inuit who worry about the lack of ports and emergency support.

Arctic Meltdown: Adapting to Change airing Saturday, July 4, at 7 p.m. (7:30 p.m. NT), tracks two different Arctics—one that is the storybook land of ice, snow and polar bears and the other that is covered with petroleum plants and pipelines carrying fossil fuels. Bylot Island is a national park, and for 20 years a team of Canadian scientists have come every summer to measure the impact of climate change on snowy owls, lemmings, snow geese and Arctic foxes. Here they have discovered that even tiny, hardy plants are being affected, causing a cascade of changes through the ecosystem.

Viewers of Jon & Kate Plus 8 know, that unless they’ve been living with their head under a rock, the show’s leading man and lady are struggling with their relationship, and this week’s promotional clips by TLC for the next show allude that they might be finally splitting up. The brief clip shows previous portions of the show where Jon & Kate are engaging in tense interactions or avoiding each other altogether; and the end of the promotional piece says that Jon and Kate are about to reveal some life changing news on Monday’s episode.

During a voice over by Kate during the clip, she reveals that “Recently we’ve made some life-changing decisions. Decisions that will affect every member of our family, ones we hope that will bring each of us some peace.” While the obvious speculation is that Jon and Kate are splitting up, it’s also possible that they’re taking some time off to work on their marriage and putting their TLC show Jon & Kate Plus 8 behind them…that is, if they can get out of their network contract. Or maybe, this is all just another publicity stunt to increase ratings that have been declining since season 5 of Jon & Kate Plus 8 premiered a few weeks ago, and viewers will tune in only to discover that Jon and Kate will be going into therapy, or getting rid of their newly acquired dogs, or sending their children to private school.

What do you think Monday’s big announcement will be on Jon & Kate Plus 8?

There’s been speculation since T.R. Knight’s character George had reduced screen time during the 5th season o Grey’s Anatomy that he would not be returning next year, and now, with the official announcement that the actor has played the character for his last season, the fate of George O’Malley might just be a little clearer.

The word was initially released by EW’s Michael Ausiello, who said that Shonda Rhimes finally decided to release Knight from his contract. Only days later, T.R. Knight himself confirmed the rumors, stating that “The decision to leave Grey’s Anatomy was not an easy one for me to make,” T.R. Knight said in a statement today. “I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to play this character and will miss my fellow cast and crew very much.”
“I continue to wish them the very best, and wholeheartedly thank all of the Grey’s Anatomy fans who have supported me and the show with such passion and enthusiasm.”

Shonda Rhimes also broke her silence, confirming Knight’s departure “I think I speak for the entire Grey’s Anatomy family when I say we wish T.R. Knight the best in his future endeavors. He is an incredibly talented actor and a person whose strength of character is admired by all of us.”

While T.R. Knight may be out, the fate of George O’Malley might not be so obvious. As we’ve previously speculated, perhaps a different actor might be brought back temporarily in his place as he struggles for his life, or perhaps George will officially cross over during the season 6 premier.

Apparently, as we receive news that one Grey’s Anatomy actor will be departing the show for good; there’s a little bit of good news regarding the return of Katherine Heigel.
