The Comedy Network and XM Canada have combined forces and creative minds to up the ante on innovative ad spots to promote a common interest…laughter. In a first-time deal with XM Canada, The Comedy Network will broadcast three, 15-second spots featuring original creative by CTV Brand Partnerships. Starting today, the spots will run for three weeks.

Initiated by XM Canada’s agency ZenithOptimedia and commissioned by XM Canada, the commercials were created by CTV Brand Partnerships Creative Director Patrick McCann, and Director/Producer Nick Appleton. Meant to look like YouTube viral clips, the spots feature three funny shorts, “Sir Geek-a-Lot,” “T-Balls Yikes,” and “Human Engine.” The promos invite viewers to try out XM Canada’s new comedy channels by signing up for a free, seven day trial on xmradio.ca/freetrial/. Broadcast exclusively on The Comedy Network, these spots will also run online at thecomedynetwork.ca, jokeroo.com, and xmradio.ca.

“The campaign provides a unique way to showcase XM Canada’s Comedy Channels to a targeted, engaged audience,” says Chris Barr, Account Director, ZenithOptimedia.

This new initiative between XM Canada and The Comedy Network is testimony to the inventive ways advertisers and CTV Brand Partnerships creative team can work together to bring creative initiatives to life. It aspires to raise awareness among advertisers that this one-stop-shop with experienced writers, producers, and editors is a cost-effective choice to produce ads.

Laughing at viral clips of nip slips, nerds with light sabers, and really bad auditions never gets old. Now if only these clips could be matched up with biting commentary! Enter TOSH.0. Premiering Wednesday, June 10 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on The Comedy Network, this 10-part, weekly topical series sees comedian Daniel Tosh dive deep into all aspects of the Internet, from the absolutely absurd to the incredibly ingenious.

In TOSH.0, Daniel Tosh tackles the ever-evolving world of the Web with razor sharp wit and biting commentary about blogs and vlogs, tweets and pokes, and new technologies. Besides making fun of other people’s Web posts, TOSH.0 bravely features its own original videos created by and starring well-known actors and comedians including the comedian’s comedian, Zack Galifianakis. There’s also a viral clip of the week, and “Web Redemption,” which gives subjects of infamous viral videos (i.e. “Afro Ninja”) a chance to redeem themselves from the embarrassment with which they’ve become synonymous.

For a real mind-blowing experience, watch this show about the Web on the Web at thecomedynetwork.ca, with exclusive, behind-the-scenes clips of TOSH.0 and more, available 24/7.

Before viewers plunge headfirst into TOSH.O, Daniel Tosh urges them to tune in this coming Saturday, June 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT to witness what he calls, “the single greatest hour in comedy.” In his 60-minute, life-altering special COMPLETELY SERIOUS, Tosh tears into homophobic right-wingers, men with ponytails, and how Google® has ruined many solid relationships.

Daniel Tosh’s unusual mind and distinctive brand of stand-up comedy has earned him the admiration of his peers. One of the most requested headliners in North America, his casual style and sharp material are also greatly appreciated by audiences, young and old. Ok…mostly young. Named one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” in 2005, Tosh has delivered the laughs on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and MTV’s Punk’d.

MuchMusic fans get ready to throw down! Announced today are four more incredible acts to set the 2009 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS stage on fire. Five time MMVAs winners Billy Talent, Much faves Alexisonfire, pop-rock goddess Kelly Clarkson, and tell-it-like-it-is punk star Shiloh get ready to kick some musical ass as they hit the MMVAs stage. Previously announced performers include Lady Gaga and co-hosts the Jonas Brothers. It’s all happening live on Sunday, June 21 at 9 p.m. ET, with the MMVAs 09 RED CARPET SPECIAL at 8 p.m. ET. The countdown to the hottest event of the year is on, with additional A-List performer and guest announcements still to come.

“We will be performing our new single ‘Rusted from the Rain’, at the MMVAs this year,” said Ian D’Sa of Billy Talent. “It will be the first time we will be performing this live on an awards show and we’re pretty excited about that. And nervous.”

“We are all very excited about being the worst looking band playing the MMVAs this year!” joked Wade MacNeil of Alexisonfire. “We will be lip syncing a song from our brand new album Old Crows / Young Cardinals.”

“Canada rocks! I can’t wait to be there in person to perform at the MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS”, said Kelly Clarkson. “And I am totally psyched about being nominated for International Video Of The Year – Artist. It will be a fun night!”

“Having grown up watching the MMVAs, I’m so stoked to be a part of this year’s show,” said Shiloh. “To be nominated for two awards and to have the opportunity to perform on the MMVAs stage is a dream come true.”

Billy Talent
Billy Talent are practically MMVAs heroes. After their entrance via full-on army tank in 2005, no one has outdone the Mississauga boys on a Red Carpet entrance. About to release their third album, Billy Talent III in July, the boys are highly decorated with five MMVAs already to their name. The band is scheduled to tour Europe and Australia this summer and are up for International Video Of The Year By A Canadian – Artist or Group.

These Toronto-based rockers have taken home three coveted MMVAs in previous years, including Best Independent Video in 2005. Their screamy style, emotional lyrics, and stellar musicianship has rocked the MMVAs stage twice before, and the guys are set to take the 2009 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS on yet another wild ride. This summer, fans can catch Alexisonfire as they hit the circuit with the Vans Warped Tour, introducing music lovers to their latest album Old Crows/Young Cardinals, in stores June 23.

Kelly Clarkson
The first-ever AMERICAN IDOL has set a standard unmatched by her successors, selling an astonishing 20 million records worldwide. Clarkson’s latest album All I Ever Wanted has set playlists on repeat with her infectious singles “My Life Would Suck Without You” and “I Do Not Hook Up”. Clarkson takes the stage as a MMVAs newbie, but not unrecognized by fans; she won the People’s Choice: Favourite International Artist in 2006 for her power ballad “Because of You”.

At a mere 16 years old, Shiloh has an attitude and voice twice her age. Edmonton-born and power punk to the core, her catchy ska influenced tunes tell her fans exactly what’s on her mind. Her two singles, “Goodbye, You Suck” and “Operator (A Girl Like Me)” are unapologetic, and drop major girl power. Shiloh goes into her first MMVAs on top with two nominations and a performance guaranteed to pump the crowd and make them jump.

Official sponsors for the 2009 MMVAs include Pepsi, Nokia, Molson, Subway and Virgin Mobile.

After 5 seasons on the Hills, Lauren Conrad said goodbye to one of MTV’s most popular reality TV series as the season 5 finale aired while the cast of the show walked the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards. Lauren, who has had enough of living her life in front of the cameras can be proud to leave the MTV series on a high note following last night’s episode.

During the season 5 finale, Lauren, who has been known as the voice of reason and balance (although has had her own share of drama), finally put her reservations aside and attended former friend Heidi Montag’s wedding to Spencer Pratt. While the dust seemed to settle upon the Spencer Pratt/Lauren Conrad feud, which ended last week with Pratt finally admitting and apologizing for spreading the sex tape rumors; more drama arose during the rehearsal dinner between Heidi’s sister, Holly Montag and the groom to be. After throwing a potato at another guest and ruining Heidi’s brand new, expensive purse, Spencer confronted his almost sister-in-law, calling her immature and rude. In the end, Holly Montag walked out on the rehearsal dinner, but was forgiven by her sister the next day during pre-wedding beauty treatments.

Prior to the wedding, Lauren and Lo said goodbye to their house with a group of their closest friends including Stephanie Pratt, Frankie, Doug, Audrina, Brody Jenner (and his out of place girlfriend, Jayde Nicole); who were also all attendees of the wedding, including every other cast member that’s ever made an appearance on the Hills, including Heidi’s boss Brent Bolthouse, Justin Bobby, and the newest addition to the Hills cast, Kristen Cavallari. Providing an element of creative foreshadowing, Kristen walked into the church wearing the same colour dress as nemesis Lauren, and took her place among Hills cast members after the wedding as Conrad quietly drove off into the sunset, reflecting upon the wedding and undoubtedly, her time on the Hills.

The next season of the Hills starts in the fall, and there’s no doubting that we’re in for some drama. While Lauren Conrad may have provided balance to the show and its drama, Kristen is about to rock the boat!

If you missed last night’s 2009 MTV Movie Awards – let me tell you what went on – Twilight won EVERYTHING. (well, 6 of the 7 categories they were nominated for), including Best Movie. With host Andy Samberg, the A-List crowd at the award show were lightly picked on during the opening speech, and ultimately, Sacha Baron Cohen’s named rear ended up in Eminem’s face, who after making his big return to the MTV stage, fled the auditorium with his pose in anger.

Of course, beyond all the antics which are characteristic of the MTV award shows, there were a few serious moments, although few and far between. Kings of Leon performed and was warmly received by the star-packed crowd, and Eminem hit the MTV stage for the first time in years, performing his latest single which had the celebrity crowd on their feet. Interesting how Eminem still relies on his characteristic celebrity bashing style in his songs, yet he can’t take it when he is the butt of the joke (in this case, quite literally).

In addition to all the laughs and drama, a few movie previews from some of the most popular series were shown – including a trailer for the next Harry Potter movie, Transformers 2, and New Moon (the Twilight sequel).

From the gleefully unhinged minds of the Wayans Brothers, SCARY MOVIE is a raucous comedy that rocks contemporary teen culture, leaving no horror film, high-school sex comedy, action flick – or even spoofs themselves – unspoofed.
